Chronograph Setup

I've seen a few chronograph setups posted on here lately.  Thought I would share mine.  I have a Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph that I can connect to my Android phone.  As you can see from the photo, I have a 5 inch wide by 24 inch piece of 1/4" steel protecting my chronograph.  I did this so that I don't have to purchase my 3rd Chronograph anytime soon.  I used an old, heavy duty tripod.  I removed and used parts from a pan/tilt head such as the quick release system and a couple of the mounting bolts.  The chronograph itself can be removed by backing out a thumb screw.  The entire assembly can be removed from the tripod with the quick release that was part of the old head.  The tripod is still height adjustable and the chronograph assembly can be rotated and locked into place.  The long cable that comes with the chronograph attaches to my Android phone so I don't need to see the display on the chronograph.  This system would be problematic if you need to see the display on the chronograph.

Very nice and protected!  8)
My only concerns are tripods can be expensive to replace, that's a lot of leverage at the attachment point.

It is my old tripod that I no longer use for anything else.  Thought I'd use it for the chrony rather than sell it.  There is actually no leverage at the attachment point.  I mounted it at the location that is weight balanced.  Looks very off balance, but that heavy steel plate puts most of the weight to the front.  I can set the entire assembly onto the tripod and it will balance without locking it into the quick release mount.

I had already deduced it was at a balance point, and many camera mounts are fairly strong...but with the weight and length of the chrony mounting and protective plate it could damage the mount over time or with a mishap!  I guess I'm just overly cautious... :-[

I love what you've done. Any chance of posting the directions. I have one of those and I'd like to do what you did.
