What powders meter best for the 10mm with 180 gr. bullets?

I am looking for powders that meter well with my 10mm handguns. I just bought some 800X but it's not the best for a progressive press I am told. I just bought a Dillon XL-650 and trying to find something I can trust to run on it. Any suggestions? I have been looking for Blue Dot for over a year and cannot find anything.

I just buy what I can find that will work these days.  I have been looking for 1680 to load 300 blackout for over a year now.

Jingweed, welcome to the forum!  While 800X doesn't meter well it is a top performer in 10mm.

Blue Dot works very well too.  But powders like LongShot, AA#7, AA#9, Power Pistol, BE-86, CFE Pistol flow much better.

Powders like the AA#7 AA#9 have been said to leak from some measures.

Best of luck! ;)

I bought two pounds of 800x.  I am using a Hornady LnL auto-progressive.  I found that using the larger diameter rifle insert for the powder meter, it worked better than the pistol inset.  My target of 8.5 grains wound up being between 6 and 8.5 grains using the pistol one.  If I set a max throw of 8.5 on the rifle insert, I don't see throws below 8.0.  Still a terrible spread, but something I can live with for knocking over steel plates for fun.  I got this powder because it was "available" when I first got my 10mm.  I'll never buy 800x again.

Thanks for the warm welcome Shadow. Looking forward to learning from this site. Thanks very much! Ralph

I would think any kind of ball powder would meter the best. Although I have never used it, seems like Winchester 271 might be a good choice. I have a Hornady auto dispenser so I can use any kind of powder. Right now I am using Blue Dot.
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

Here is some data I got yesterday with two powders that seem to meter well.

Power Pistol for the win, meters great in my 650 and I shoot 180's and PP almost exclusively.

I like Power Pistol (be-86) and Silhouette. PP and BE86 are easier to find lately

Thefiringline shooting range in Westland MI has 1680 in stock. I know that probably doesn't help you much, but it wasn't there last week so maybe it'll start showing up in your parts soon.

I have seen it at my local powder supplier, they normally only get a few one pound containers at a time and people drive for 100+ miles to pick it up!  Glad handgun powder is not like that...

If you want some slower loads for general plinking, Universal Clays works well and meters just fine through my Dillon.  but for full power loads, I like Longshot.
