I wanted to try putting something together in one area for these. It seems (so far) they have manufactured these three different ways in the past.

Gen 1 with 13.0gr's Canister powder. Total weight in gr's 265, 262, 262, 262, 262. Average = 262.6gr's. Performance=1269 FPS/ 626 LBS 4.75" barrel: http://10mm-firearms.com/factory-10mm-ammo-pull-downs/winchester-175gr-silvertip-jhp-(old)-pull-down/msg28642/#msg28642

Gen 2 with 9.2grs WAP? powder. Total weight in gr's 259, 263, 262, 262, 262. Average = 261.6gr's. Performance=1239 FPS/ 589 LBS 4.75" barrel: http://10mm-firearms.com/factory-10mm-ammo-pull-downs/winchester-175gr-silvertip-jhp-(1152015)-pull-down/msg38801/#msg38801

Gen 3 with 8.6gr's Cansister powder. Total weight in gr's 260, 260, 260, 259, 259. Average = 259.6gr's. Performance= 1210 FPS/ 569 LBS 4.75" barrel: http://10mm-firearms.com/factory-10mm-ammo-pull-downs/winchester-175gr-silvertip-jhp-pull-down/15/

That first Generation looks a lot like the newer AA#9 of today and fits the profile fairly close.  AA powders have always been a blend of the Winchester bulk powders.

The 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen, look a lot like the same powders, Listed as WAP which fits the profile, they may have their own additives, deterrents, graphites and flash suppressants!

Pretty cool to see the evolution of this round. I have a couple boxes of gen 2 I bought in '08. Also have a box of gen 1 my dad gave me. Not sure when he bought it. He used to have a 610 way back.

Intercooler

If you have a round of each you can send to The Shadow for a pull-down it will help confirm things more.

On the gen 1, was that $15.95 per box of 20 or 50?

Intercooler

Box of 20. I don't know if they ever made a box of 50?

4949shooter

Hmmm....not sure if they did back in the nineties.

Centimeter

Anyone happen to know an approximate timeline for when the generations ended/began? I swear I've seen one of the first generation boxes around here somewhere but I have no idea when I would have bought something that (relatively) old.

I have a box of 2nd gen I found a year ago when I got my witness... had to rub the dust off of it

I think I remember the 10mm Silvertips in 1990 along with the Black Talons.

One of my favorites since day one!

I have taken a few deer with these in my hand loads and factory ammo.

Even today with all kinds of designer bullets, its tough to beat the old Silvertip!
