In August, I severely injured my neck. In the last 2 months my condition has rapidly declined. On the 17th of March (this coming Tuesday) I go in for multiple disc fusions of my neck.

This has equated to much time heavily medicated. Many dropped items as the nerv s in my hands let go, a couple falls as the nerves in my legs went into screaming agony etc. it is difficult to sit for any length. Lay down for any length, stand etc.

Hang tough man. I had neck surgery in 2007 - it made a huge difference. Stay positive and my prayers go out to you.

Good luck with the surgery.  I have been lucky to never experience what you and Pablo have, but have a friend who did.  His was lower back, but fusing a few vertebra did the trick for him.

Man I can only pray for a successful surgery and wish you all the best toward your recovery.  May the repairs and benefits of the surgery be a blessing of restorative health for you! Amen!
I have seen my wife with the issues as she to drops stuff because of the nerve issues in her neck.  Her's is hereditary as her sisters also suffer issues, two of them have had neck surgeries already both of them are younger than her.

Take care and God's blessings!

I am probably a few years away from disc fusions myself, two damaged discs from a wreck and a genetic degeneration disease have me constantly hurting. Mine is not bad enough yet to affect my hands much but its getting there. The carpal tunnel surgery i had a few months ago helped but did not alleviate all the issues. Not to meniton the nueropathy in my feet and nerve damage on my knees..
I can definietly relate to what you are going through. Luckily there is a top neurologist here that is nationally known.

Thanks for the replies.

They go in through the front of my neck, will remove two discs, and either use synthetic (type of plastic used in joint replacement or titanium) or take a bone graft from my hip for each one.

I am not too keen on the whole "Throat Slit" part of the operation  ;D

Hmm, that would be an intersting scar to add to my list... :D
Might as well get two bolt implants in my neck if they do that one on me ala frankenstein.

I already have interestingly conversational scars, one more isn't going to really get noticed.  :))

I had 45 radiation treatments and 3 chemotherapy sessions that caused me to have severe weight loss, enough to erode my muscle mass and send me to a nursing home for 3 months. I'm a lot better now, not back where I was, but a lot better. So there is hope.
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

Gandog, it was hard enough going through 6 chemo sessions with my less than 1yr old Granddaughter, you have my admiration and respect for surviving that many radiation and chemo sessions.

Ai yi yi,  can't imagine a little 1 year old girl having to do SIX. 3 was bad enough. It definitely did some kidney damage to me. (AKA decreased function)

5 yrs. ago I had a long recovery from a freak accident.  May your resolve be absolute and your patience unlimited.

Best wishes on the surgery. Had a two disc fusion, like Pablo, in '07. Yeah, they go through your neck but it's not as bad as it sounds, although the idea of it didn't thrill me either.

Now have a titanium plate and a few screws in there but it turned out fine. Went home the next day. Took a little while to get over but it's been good ever since. Hope the same for you.
