My LGS just got a blue label G40 in...... Must resist temptation

Dave84,

I have my G40. Already swapped out the trigger for a zevtech fulcrum, swapped the stock Gen 4 RSA for a Gen 4 stainless steel RSA, swapped out the barrel for a 6 inch KKM and swapped out the sights for a Dawson Precision fiber optic front and adjustable rear. The 6 inch KKM barrel is just a hair longer than the stock 6 inch Glock barrel.

The slide width is about 1.120 depending on how much pressure I put on my dial calipers.  ;D

Someone on Glock ID forum posted a negative review of the G40 last night. Said the slide was too front heavy, and it is no good for competition.

I replied the front weight takes the recoil out of 10mm loads. Someone else said it is a gun meant for hunting and not competition.

I should offer to take it off his hands.

I was out shooting my G40 today with some light loads, 180 grain Berry's fueled by 6 grains of Win 231. I just loaded up some 200 grain WFNGC Double Tap and Beartooth bullets tonight with Longshot and Bluedot. Probably won't shoot em til next week.

I don't find the G40 nose heavy. The balance point seems to be in the ejection port but I have a Dawson Precision adjustable rear sight on mine and it's heavier than the stock rear sight. I bought the pistol for hunting and so far I think it's a winner. We'll see how it handles 200 grain WFNGC loads.

Do you have any pictures? I'm getting excited for this new addition.

Hi All....picked mine up fri the 7th...Y'all be advised that if ya want to mount a Trijicon
RMR 06 y'all will find that the mounting screws that come with the Trijicon are WAY
toooooo long ...I had to shorten them by about .040" !!!!!
Other than that it is an awesome rig...!!!

Did it come stock with the kkm barrel?

No it didn't. I had bought the KKM for my Glock 20. I sold the 20 to a co-worker and kept the KKM as well as the Dawson sights, gen 4 stainless steel RSA and zev tech fulcrum trigger. All those parts seem to work fine in this pistol.

I'm number two in line for getting this from my range. With such a nice long sight radius I am thinking iron sights will be quite adequate. Probably will go with this kind of custom set of ameriglos I have picked out. A red dot would be great on say a glock 26 or 19. Something with a shorter sight radius.

Iron sights is where I'm stayin too. I have two Trijicon RM 06s and I had one mounted on my G20 but I have to be practical with mine. I found I can more quickly, instinctively shoot with irons than the Trijicon. I went through this same drill this summer with my S&W 629.

If I didn't live in Alaska, I would definitely mount the Trijicon for hunting but if I need to pull the pistol for an unfortunate bear encounter while fishing or deer hunting I need to be able to shoot quickly and accurately and I just don't have enough trigger time behind a reflex sight to feel comfortable doing that. Trying to find the red dot to place on the head of the bear that just stepped onto the trail 30 feet in front of me is just too much for me right now. I'm sure there are competition shooters or other more experienced reflex sight users who would disagree with me but I have yet to meet one of them on a salmon stream or on Kodiak Island.  ;D
