This is from my friend Dennis in Wyoming:

A couple weeks ago we had a very cold snap. Daytime didn't get above 0 and night -18 to -24. At night ice fog would form from warmer water in the river & extreme still cold.
A friend at WY Tactical thought my ATV evening jaunts running my GSP Oz up the Shoshone river to Rattlesnake Mt. were dangerous. Not the cold mind you, but carrying a none wheel gun in extreme weather. (He carries a Linbaugh 454 Casull).  This made me think about the Glock 20.
Ice fog (pluming up in attached picture from river canyon) gets thick at night. 1/4 mile visibility is normal & the moisture sticks to everything forming a rime ice coating.
The cell picture I took was at about 3:45 pm at -11.  I tried to take night pics of test, but phone flash would not work in -18 & ice frosted the screen.
The Glock 20 shot fine frosted over with white film of ice.  Shot 3, 3 round bursts without problem.  Flash & smoke appeared excessive..  Glock 29 shot 3 rounds & jammed.  I believe my insulted gloves hampered slide.  Cleared & fired 6 round burst.  These guns were frozen, iced coated inside & out.
I wish I could have gotten pics of guns with white crystal coating.  I couldn't do anymore because my trigger finger exposure was painful and had to put my Army mittens on from Korea.
I now feel safe taking my Glock 20 out on night rides in extreme temps.

That is extreme at those temps!  Some oils and greases will also freeze at the extremes or gum up as they thicken.
Thanks!

Thanks for the info.

Did you have any oil on the gun?

It was my friend Dennis form Wyoming who actually ran the test.

I don't know what lube he had on the guns, if any.

In December of 2013, I spent 10 days ATV Elk Hunting near Alcova, Wyoming.  The temps were in the teens during the day & below 0* at night for the 1st 3 days.  I carried a Gen 2 Glock 20 in a Chesty Puller Rig from Simply Rugged.  The 4th day on the temp never got over -10*, with the nights down to -28* or so.  We rode about 1/3 of the 4th day and got back in the truck, driving and glassing.  By the 3rd day, the Gen 2 Glock 20 was so gritty and frozen that I changed my carry out to a 3" GP100 loaded heavy, carried in the same manner.

This is why I live in Ga. I was on Elmenfor AFB in 64 - earthquake, - went to Western Ny  in 69- blizzard of 77 - I'ed had enough moved to Ga in 85  - blizzard in 93 and Ice storm in 94 - but at last all I had to do was just wait a while and it was gone.

The Danish SF chooses the G20 while patrolling in northern Greenland.  I'll assume they've tested their guns in cold temps.

I am not seeing any pictures. How are they shared?

Regarding mine, it was actually more volcanic grit than ice.  I was just afraid if would hinder slide speed & also expedite wear .....  ;D
