Just a heads up in case anyone is interested... There is a nice cover piece in the latest issue of Guns magazine on the Nighthawk Custom Heinie Longslide... Very nice to see some 10mm coverage :-)

Well as I read the article, I gathered that John Taffin is a magazine writer doing his best to sell the magazine.  Also 1911 guns and 45 runs in his veins, especially when fueled by yet another 1911 manufacture looking for exposure and sales!  While the gun looks to be made to quality standard is it really worth $3295 plus shipping/handling, transferfees, taxes?  Total cost running around $3700 to the buyer...

He was shooting mediocre factory ammo most tailored for Law Enforcement use in close quarter situations.  I would have liked to seen some TRUE 10mm performance ammo (Underwood, Buffalo Bore, Double Tap) being test from the "weak link" 1911.   A video & link would be neat to judge the pistols performance.

Does he shoot any other 10mm ammo besides those paying for advertisement?  If the ammo doesn't make 1200 fps from a 5" gun with 200 grain bullets or 1300 fps with a 170 or 180 grain bullets then it is under the True 10mm ballistic performance possible!

Mr. Taffin states he has the Delta Elite, Kimber and Glock 20 (again 1911's other than the Glock).  What about some close ups of chamber support?  Does this custom 1911 long slide & barrel afford quality in this area?   What about the fired brass did it show any expansion?  Also the recoil spring has no recoil rod, will the spring be wadded up inside the frame and slide during recoil?

Is Glock the ONLY manufacture that can build a new gun chambered in 10mm that is NOT a 1911 that works.  S&W did one of the best jobs of building a true 10mm semiauto designed for the cartridge at the time.  They made 6 different models to satisfiy various law enforcement contracts.  It was the FBI that said the ammo was too potent for their needs so again S&W made the 40S&W to meet that requirement.

I had very high hopes for the VLTOR Bren Ten rebirth but we have seen where this has fallen off the production table.

So I ask..."Is it just me that thinks this way?"   ???

I certainly agree the article would have been better if it had been written with the true 10mm enthusiast in mind... Even as a 10mm neophyte it is clear to me that most factory ammo does not do the platform justice.

And I will just say it... I, for one, and not a big fan of the 1911 platform. (That is heresy to some!) If I had to wish for a new 10mm pistol to come to market I would wish for an H&K similar in design to the HK45/HK45C - I like the ergos on the HK45 a lot and would like a polymer DA/SA to complement my Glocks.

I saw this article last week or so, took cell phone pics of the article and emailed my Dad to show him .. but forgot to post.  Whoops!

Anyways, I think its great coverage for the 10mm... and Heinie (hehe) but I'd not pay that much for a longslide considering Fusion built mine for about half that (with ALL of my custom additions).

As for it being a 1911, I think its great!  And YES, I think the 1911 is a great platform for the 10mm.... ESPECIALLY in longslide designation.  The extra slide mass makes the 10mm a way more efficient machine.  A modern, properly setup 1911 longslide will handle full power 10mm for a long, long time.

Nick does your Fusion have the swing link or the ramped barrel design?  Which would you consider better for the 1911 design?

How is the chamber support?

Except for the Peter Stahls top end, all 1911's have a link that I know of.  It is not related to the type of feed ramp.

Fusion usually cuts the frame for a Clark/Para ramp.  I guess they would probably do a Wilson/Nowlin if you wanted one.
