I had Robar Industries in Phoenix, Arizona, modify my G20 gen 3 SF.

I had the grip reduction, taking out some of the back strap.  Full grip texture, medium grit.  A beaver tail added and finally a high grip cut.  Recently, I picked up a full slide G21 gen 3 slide, need to replace sights, that will use the lower frame of my G20 as needed.

I have had this modification for about 4 months and no regrets.  I have a 10mm and .45 acp off of one frame.    All my Glocks have heinie straight 8 ledge, G19 g3 G30 g3 SF, G20/21 g3 modified.

Nice.

How much $ for the reduction and stippling?

How did they do the beaver tail??

Pricing on the work is on their website.  They do finishing ie., slick stuff and corrosion proof etc.... All my work was $450.00, beaver tail was the most, I think like half the cost. The tail is clean and you can't tell it was an add-on.  My guess is that when they did the read strap reduction, they built the tail back into the strap area.  Super clean.

The high cut was simple and easy, just didn't want to do it myself.   The grip reduction, taking the Gen3 SF to an even smaller grip is great.  I have several friends from within the shooting range world to my non shooters, all have commented on how much the size has been reduced.  I have always been a Glock owner and have big hands and never liked the larger style.   Having a larger hand, I have never been slide bit by a block, but shooting the full 10mm and then making it a .45 too, i figure the high cut trigger will pull my hand up higher and better leverage/control.  I don't think I would do this on my g19's.

Texture is cool feature. I opted for medium, they have low, med and high. I got the full texture wrap done, ie., into the front strap/finger grooves.  I did the texture for hunting application with rain, etc... wanted more contact.  I am right handed, and next time I do texture, I may do a high on the right half of grip and medium on the left.  Your dominant hand needs more grip. They can do this option too.

I would do the texture and high grip mod on my other guns. I carry my g19 in my appendix and I am afraid of rash from grip/texture.  I have carried the g20 appendix style and got more of a rub from the top end of the slide, not anything from the grip.  Something to play with more.

Thanks!

Website found and bookmarked. Looks like they do nice work.

That stippling looks awesome. And that beavertail, wow. Talk about professional workmanship. It's seamless! Does the stippling do the job, as far as enhancing grip is concerned, better than typical pin-hole-style stippling? I might have to seriously consider having that done to my G20.

I really am loving the texture.  From original gen 3 to this new grip is night and day.  This is the medium texture.  I was a the range last night and ran a few Underwood 220 grain hard cast lead rounds fly and had a good time.

I do notice a difference in control and comfort and it feels better than my glock 30 sf.

Centimeter

That sounds like a win to me. Did you do a front grip reduction as well or just the back?

n2horns

Only the back strap was taken down.  The front I liked with the grooves and had them leave it.  The texture is a full grip texture, leaving finger grooves. They can take that out and smooth the grooves down and texture or just texture 3 sides.

They told me they would/could texture high on one side and medium on another. Custom it is for sure.  I am in Arizona, and so it was easy to drop off and pickup.  They said they get tons of guns shipped to them for work.

Ah, I see. I noticed they offer a front strap reduction with or without the finger grooves left intact so I wasn't sure if you'd taken it down but kept the grooves or not. I think I like the finger grooves left on. I'm thinking I'll do front and back reductions but keep the grooves, along with an undercut trigger guard and a medium texture on both sides. That sounds just about perfect for a fighting pistol. Thanks for the first-hand opinion on their excellent work!

Sure thing.  The grooves feel good.  You can get high texture and then sand it down to more of what you want. They did indicate they start texture at high and sand it down to medium.  Just a thought if you wanted to do a more custom feel.

I took me a long time to decide on doing this.  I felt that for the reviews and what was seen, Robar was local and had super quality.

Centimeter

That was actually exactly what I was thinking of doing! At least trying the high texture and then working down from there seems like the fairest way of deciding which I prefer. I generally appreciate the more aggressive grip patterns/styles so I'm almost positive I wouldn't want to do much sanding at all. I had heard about Robar a few years ago and there are always tons of reviews online regarding their finishes, particularly the NP3, which are almost overwhelmingly positive. So it makes sense that they'd be capable of delivering a great gunsmithing product as well.

Can I ask how long the process was to get everything done and back in your hands?

n2horns

My turn around time on it was 4 to 6 weeks. I think they got it at 4 weeks.  They normally give longer quotes and deliver sooner.   I have heard that sometimes depending on how busy they are, can be 3 months.

Centimeter

Very cool. That's better than I was expecting. Thanks.
