22lb vs. 24lb (ISMI) Recoil Spring: Gen 4 Glock 20

Noobish question, I know. Forgive me.

Pretty straightforward question though: Which would be better weight recoil spring for the pistol? It will be fed a diet of Underwood 200g XTPs and TMJs.

I was pretty sold on the 22lb recoil spring until I read the reports of it being under-sprung by about 2lbs.

Well the Gen 4's have been seeing issues with the higher impulse ammo, Glock has been trying to address them.
I know that some have even had issues with aftermarket springs as well.  The aftermarket gen 4 springs are different from to older versions of gen 3 and gen 2 G-20's

Now with that said , I run a non captive Wolff RSA and 22 lb spring in my G-20 SF and it runs like a sewing machine...with loads matching the UW and my own handloads.

On the flip side...any harm with a heavy 24 lb spring slamming the slide home with more force causing problems/premature wear?

I don't completely understand the mechanics and physics at play when the slide returns home.

How are the GlockMeister ISMI RSAs?  Seems as though they offer a pretty reasonably priced Gen4 compatible single spring for the G20 Gen4.  The guys at Underwood suggested a 22lbs one when I talked to them.

What do you mean? They are ISMI springs on a Glockmeister rod. Are you asking about the spring are the guide rod?

Have you shot your G4 G20 with the factory spring setup? Has it given you fits? If so, was it manufactured before 1/1/2014? If it was, contact Glock; there were some issues and their website has info on getting an updated RSA.

If you haven't tried it with the G4 RSA, you may want to before expending the extra $$$$ without necessarily needing to. My G4 G20 has handled all the Underwood loads with no issues or frame battering.

Post 1/1/2014. I have not shot it yet. I am being far more OCD than I generally would be because I have a full FDE model and I imagine it would be a PIA to try and have it replaced should something happen.

No problem.....I was just letting you know the RSA for the G4 has ungone some modifications by Glock.

I've shot 250+ of hot loads, Underwood/BB type loads; then approx 500+/- target loads, mainly Georgia Arms, but some other brands, too.

I believe Redbaron is correct...the stock RSA may work for you. I would suggest giving it a try.

If not, the 24 pound RSA from Glockmeister has been working without a hitch in my Gen 4 and Underwood ammo.
