Howdy all, my name is Royce. I'm 47. Just got back into shooting after a long hiatus. My first purchase in about 20 years was a Glock 19, that's my EDC, shortly there after I picked up a 4" .357 for fun and woods carry. These days I mostly just shoot for fun, and while I love my .357 it just doesn't produce oomph I was looking for. Ive never owned a 10mm and ive never reloaded. I plan on doing both this year. As soon as I finish my AR build. I'm a poor. So i was looking at the RIA double stack 10mm. I plan on running cast, powder coated pills for plinking, and woods carry. Maybe gold dots for home defense. I plan on full Norma spec velocities. If I wanted something milder to shoot I have other options. Like 38 special in my .357, and if I wanted a 40 I would buy a 40. The more I read about the 10mm the more hyped I am about the round. Espescially in double stack. Any advice is welcome.

Welcome Rooster34.

RIA makes a solid gun.  I have the Rock Ultra FS HC, and I melted the magwell down to a more EDC style, though I rarely carry the gun.  It is a stout gun and will handle the duty you have outlined just fine.

Also in that price range are the Witness guns.  I have three of these, two in 10mm.  They all are solid performers.

Rooster34, Welcome to the forum!  Good luck with your decision for your 10mm!  There is plenty reloading info here to study and people that will help out!
Best regards!  :D

Hi all!
New to the forum..... after spending the last hour reading through the thread that Shadow started on factory ammo pulls for 10mm, I felt like I just had to join the group. Outstanding effort by Shadow on that thread. I'm currently shooting my new Sig P220 10mm Stainless Elite and those load values will really come in handy for my next hand loads. Think I'll stay with Power Pistol and Win 231 for now (180 gn Armscore fmj from Everglades Ammo)  as I've already cooked some loads up and like the results. Cheers everyone!

Rick408, Welcome to the forum!  Thank you for the recognition but I must say, it was also because many guys shared ammo for these documentations that made a lot of them possible.
Always looking to add more ammo types in the effort to document & preserve the data found!  ;D
Best regards!

Real name is Paul, I hail from the great (?) state of NOhio. Retired now, I've been shooting rifles for 50+ years, handguns for close to 50 years and rollin' my own ammo for 40+ years, but am new to the 10MM. I found out about this site at a different forum, I've been watching for a couple of weeks and decided to get on board.  The 10 I got is a Ruger SR1911 Target model, now waiting for the weather to improve so I can get it out and stretch it's legs.

Welcome Paul, lots of knowledgeable folk to learn from...Enjoy!

Hi --- I'm Joe - currently in Montana - THE LAST GOOD PLACE. I don't have any more moves in me --- don't really want to move again anyway.

Here, the air's clear, the trout put up a good fight and I'm retired so I didn't cost some Montanan his job.
BTW: BIG wages here are $15/hr - so if you want to make $10 million in Montana, arrive with $20 million.

I spent 55+ years in the auto repair business - owned a few shops and a couple of private yacht/fishing boats in Dana Point and Newport Beach, CA.,  and half an airplane - and a few other things in my previous life in SoCal.

Before that, I lived in NJ, FL, CT, Cuba, VA, Scotland, Ireland, Egypt, and wherever my dad's submarine service took us - I was a Navy Brat.  The 4 years I spent in the USN wasn't a total waste of time, but the experience was good, so there's that anyway.

I own a G20.4, use Underwood Extreme Penetrators when I fish - 'cause there's bears in the riverbeds and foothills and I do not give a bear permission to eat my live while I watch. I don't think the bears even took a winter nap this year since the winter (up to this point) has been too mild. That can change at any moment though......

My holster is a Blackhawk CQC with toggle release. It's waterproof in case I accidentally go swimming and the G20 won't fall out. Since I wear a backpack and carry 2 poles and water, a few PBJs and some hard butterscotch candies from The Dollar Store.

Since I squat a lot to fish - gotta sneak up on fish, ya know ..... I find I also tend to sneak up on bears. So I cross draw from my left hip because I feel that's only one motion ---> pull-sweep-fire all in one fluid move, one direction.

Most times I practice on a 9-inch paper plate at 42 yards (oddball footage I know, but it just worked out that way) and I can double tap inside the plate. I can dump a mag of 15+1 in a little over 5 seconds.... I don't think I'll be able to drop a mag and reload in the time it takes a bear to charge.....<chomp, chomp>

Ya gotta be good to beat Yogi.

Joe, Welcome to the forum, Montana is very nice but also as in other states, it too is changing!  If your out there fishing you diffidently need to keep eyes peeled for the bruins!
You might want to consider adding some heavier weight bullets to you carry out and about!
Best regards,  :D

Welcome Joe, lots to learn here, Also, like Shadow mentioned, you may want to consider Underwood's 200gr XTP, or their 220gr hard cast

Welcome to the Forum from Northern Utah
Moved here from Dana Point (Dana West Marina, since day one), in hopes of retiring where the LibTards haven't screwed it up "YET"
Unfortunately, at the rate we're going, that might just happen, before I can retire
So tell me again how Trump was worse then the 8 years before .... AND what came after HIM !
