New here my name is Mike,  txcoondog guided me here from another forum.

I wanted to use my same screen name as on other forums, but I do not live in Tx anymore--- I'm in Colorado for a while now.

Just picked up my ria 52000 yesterday an am excited to give her a go on Monday.

Local factory ammo is almost non-exsistant so Ive already dove into reloads for it using 180xtp and 180 plated, have some 200wfn on the way as we speak.

I'm not new to reloading (been at it for 25 years) but never had a 10mm before. Had a weird issue yesterday, my hornady seating/t.c. die wouldn't crimp....tried removing the seat plug and kept turning it down and no matter how far I turned it it would not crimp, but it started to buckle the cases.....borrowed a neighbor's Lee tc/seater die and got it to crimp the first time.

I notice on my new gun; the slide fit is tight, trigger seems nice, finish is ok but I'm not a real park fan....the chamber is tight- only .001" clearance from a loaded round (with a .401" bullet) to the factory test fired brass I got with the gun. --- Hope this doesn't cause issues if I need to run a .402" cast bullet--- initial slugging shows .400" groove measurement, but 1 groove seemed to measure .401" so i need to get me a tighter slug to push through to test it out.

Heard there could be a few minor tweaks I need to do---maybe fit my extractor and tweak my mag lips--- I'll wait till after my first range trip to see if it needs those or if ria got it right (production date was Feb of 2017)

Hope to learn a few things and help others wen I can

Oh yea, I've got a chest rig on the way for hunting--- once I get it I'll post a review as it's a "custom" build and I'm gonna be the guinea pig as he's not done a 6"slide 1911 yet.

Welcome to the forum Mike!  You might want to clean the Hornady Dies to see if you can correct the crimping issue.
The best thing to do is seating bullets to proper depth without any crimp applied in one step and applying the crimp to finish in a separate step so there is no bullet movement to cause case buckling.  Measuring the very edge of a casing the case mouth will likely show 0.4220"-0.4225" with cast bullets or a little tighter at 0.4215" is usually good for the jacketed stuff.  Over crimping can cause loose bullet tension, I have seen bullets that I would turn as seated and crimped, I have also seen commercial stuff that were severely over crimped below 0.4200 and even as small as 0.4180"  :o

I use the RCBS dies for my handloads since early 1990, bought the LEE FCD die to test it for finish crimping but didn't like the results.  However I do use the FCD with the guts removed to take advantage of that carbide sizing ring using it as a pass-through presizer.  Think Bulge Buster operation with this process.  This is a great process to keep brass uniform from stem to stern!  Smiled Brass is ruined brass and should be discarded as it has started to shear with the over stretching and distinct line that has formed.

You should be OK with your cast bullets with good quality lube or PC (powder coated) in you barrel.  I size mine to 0.4015" and they work well even in the Glock factory barrels.

Best regards, enjoy the forum.  :D

I stick with the Lee FCD. And really it's all about just getting read on the tiny bell for bullet seating. Never have a problem. Unlike the crap Sig ammo batches where the left the bell. Arrggg.

Thanks for the info, is the "bulge" an issue with the ria pro ultra bull barrel? Should I look into a "bulge buster" type of die? I have the hornady ti-nitride die set but obviously right now, the taper crimp part isn't working right--- I'll try cleaning it to see if that helps.--- I may end up getting another full set of dies anyway, as this was my 40sw set and it's easier if I just leave them set for caliber rather than switch back and forth. (Only ever loaded jackets and plated in the 40 though) (maybe I should start a new thread so as not to clutter the "intro" thread)

The RIA barrels are tighter tolerances than say a Glock barrel, however SMILEs can be seen in almost all barrels if the limits of the brass are exceeded.  If you use range pick up brass yes you will need to do pass through sizing.

The Hornady dies should work for both 40S&W and 10mm cartridges.  As far as adjustments I use a 1/8" spacer ring to keep from having to readjust mine.  Have it set for crimp 40S&W then raise the die with a 1/8" spacer and it is perfect for 10mm.
When you are doing a taper crimp you will usually see a slight shine in the edge of the case mouth where it is pushed inward against the bullet.

I don't really find much 10mm brass left out at ranges. But I do get a WHOLE lot of .40 S&W And .45 ACP. My first act after cleaning them is putting them through my Redding Gr-x pass through sizer or my Lee Bulge buster set up. I don't even bother picking up 9mm I have so much. (And now I skip .40 cal for the same reason)
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

Hey guys!

I have officially joined the 10mm fan club. I was looking at a hand cannon to add to my collection partially just because but also to hunt with. I looked at 44 mags, 460s, even the 500 (for a brief moment) and a friend shoots 10mm and turned me onto it. After a bunch of researching I decided to go with the gen 4 glock G40. after some more research into parts I found I could build the same gun with better trigger and a regular rifled barrel for less then buying the G40 and buying a bbl. build a 10mm based on a Glock Gen 4 frame with a LWD longslide.

The rest of my parts all come in today and tomorrow. Im like a kid in a candy store!!
