Welcome RiverRat, I like to make smoke too! I love blasting away with heavily charged percussion revolvers loaded with real BP. It takes me to another time, and besides, the are fun on rabbits. I also own a few BP rifles (not inlines) and have tinkered with flinters in my younger days. I'd love a .40 longrifle "for squirrels and such".

Welcome RR! I,m new to the forum also. Sounds like you like shooting as much as everyone also on his forum. 10mm firearms is a great place to hang out.

Hi, I'm Josh from Pittsburgh. I'm a professional chef and avid recreational shooter, hunter, and handloader. I was getting bored with loading and wanted to find a new round to load. The 10mm seems to have caught my fancy. I don't have a 10mm pistol yet, but I have a Para Elite Hunter on layaway and should have it soon. Mean while, I'm gathering components to begin loading when the new baby comes home. I'm looking to load some full power loads for blowing up stuff at the plinking range. I also want to make up some loads for target shooting. I am interested in some loads using lead cast bullets for use at my club's indoor range. Unfortunately, my state (PA) doesn't allow hunting with a semi auto because our hunting laws haven't reached the 20th century, much less the 21st! Hopefully, this will change because I would love to hunt white tail with the 10mm. Anyway, I'm looking forward to learning more about 10mm loading and shooting here.

Josh, Welcome, plenty of good information and folks on here.
I used to live up in the frozen North a few hours from you Orchard Park, NY about 25 miles South of Buffalo.

Welcome Josh!  Yes PA has some hunting rules I never did understand, when I went there in 1976 to hunt they would not allow deer hunting with a shotgun.  I had to use a friends 30-30 for the deer hunt.

The amount of deer up there is crazy!  There were signs, cut out plywood of a deer flagging it's tail along the interstate hwy to keep them from jumping out in traffic.   We were driving through steel town and deer ran out from between houses, skidding in the ice on the road right in town, wild I'm telling you.

Never ever saw so many deer in one place!  Everyone had an old refrigerator with a keg and a tap on the door.  I enjoyed all the different beers at the time, Stroh's, Rolling Rock, Steel City, Schmidt's and several others.

I sampled some pickled bear meat which was quite tasty!

I had often wanted to go there again!

The deer around Pittsburgh and surrounding areas are crazy. I live in a pretty urban area and I could go out on my porch, throw a rock in a random direction and probably hit a deer. Of course, out in the woods hunting where they should be, you hardly see any.

Evolutionary biology.  The deer most comfortable integrating in human environments are the ones that are living and reproducing in greater numbers.

I wonder if there are any good studies on the urbanization of deer.

Welcome Josh! I think you'll be very pleased with the Para Hunter as a first 10mm. Mine has been flawless. Be sure to loctite all screws, especially the two small ones on top of the rear sight.

Howdy 10mm fans, name is Randall I'm 53 and a D.O.D. civilian  working as outside machinist (33 years) for US NAVY SUBMARINE FORCES AFLOAT in Virginia. Long time hand gunner (1911's BHP CZ-75 XD PPQ) and just bought a gun I swore I'd never own...... a Glock  :'(  Gen4 G20 it's the 1st 10mm I've bought and the Glock had to many check marks next to it to turn down but it still feels like a pregnant elephant in my XL hands.

I reload 9mm/45acp&colt/270win/5.56/.204ruger and will reload the 10 latter on when I can find some Star Line brass  and powder (currently have a lot of HP-38 great for the 9 & 45 might try some in the 10 for target loads) I've been lurking here for last several months and decided to sign up since I have the Glock. Looks like great info here and you guys can help out a new Glock & 10mm owner!

ps:I've been married for 30 years and the wife decided to start shooting in last year (NRA member now) the PPQ 9mm is hers as she was lusting over my Browning Hi Powers and Xdm.
