BT8850, Glad you were able to find your way here and welcome aboard. :D  This forum is only as good as those who participate and share their knowledge!  Having a solid 10mm enthusiast and user base will afford us a good pool of knowledge.  ;D

BTW, todays mail was a no-show :(, hopefully tomorrow they will be here...

Shadow - Agreed! That's upsetting, I apologize, I should have pestered some sort of tracking number out of the woman at the post office. If they do not show up by tomorrow I will go back and see what if anything they can tell me. If for some reason they don't make it, I will send 5 more as I stand behind my word. I was really hoping they'd be there for you.

MCQUADE - Nice to meet you. That is a shame to hear about your wild ride but its fortunate you're still here to tell the story!!

Hello all.

Just joined last night. Fantastic site, can't wait to learn as much about 10mm as possible! I was tipped to this site by pacapcop when I bought his 1006 last month, and after talking with The shadow on the Smith and Wesson forum I decided to make it official and member up. I'm new to the 10mm game, only have experience with a G20 and the 1006 but I forsee a long road ahead as 10mm is flat out awesome.

Ah good you did make it over her from the S&W Forums. I'm a GTO guy myself but unlike other GTO owners I am tolerant of "Rustang" people. Hey we're all American Muscle owners right? You'll enjoy it over here. Lots of good information and one of the more technical forums out there (just check the ammo pull down section).

Good morning,

I joined this forum a little over a year ago. Haven't spent much time here. I usually frequent GT on a daily basis as a lurker soaking up 10mm goodness. Over several years there I barely have 50+ posts. Recently one of the GT members was told he can no longer post his Youtube links of denim gel tests. So far it seems that GT is going to take a hard stand on it. I feel that the videos have helped me make better educated decisions about 10mm ammunition choices and contribute 10 fold more than they take away. For these reason I am looking for a new home to lurk daily and will be starting here. Hopefully Andrew will want too and be able too continue posting his videos here.

Other than that:
Location: PNW
Favorite powder: x800
Favorite bullet: 165 GD, 200 hardcast
Next 10mm purchase: EAA Witness Stock

Seriously? That is crazy stupid. Link to thread? I'm just curious to see how they justify that...

The 10 Ring is the only place I really frequent on GT, due to some absolute nonsense I've encountered on GT in general. I'd be sad to see the quality of The 10 Ring affected by crazy policies.

Oh well, plenty of room here for lovers of the 10mm :-)

crazywednesday, Welcome to the forum!  Like you many of us were or are members of GT.  I was saddened by the news that GT did that to Andrew, when all he was doing was trying to show an unbiased view of various products, at the expense of his time, effort and materials.  He and his videos have been welcomed here and we are very appreciative of his work!

Seeing how you are a handloader, you will find the "Pull-Down" section of use, to see what was found inside many cartridges.  People have provided cartridges as purchased, and then documented here for all to learn from the data.

Best regards!

The 10mm has a branding problem.

It's a great cartidge, but it hasn't caught the mass of the people's attention. The name "10mm" made sense in the mid 80's when the 9mm was growing in popularity, but now it doesn't mean anything to most people.

I suggest we rename it .40 Automatic Magnum. That is what it is. It is a .40 automatic lengthened just a touch and loaded to much higher pressures. The rename will make the cartridge's potential intuitively obvious.  The phrase "Always use a cartidge starting with a 4." leaves people uncertain about the 10. If lazy people call it the auto mag, I'm OK with that.

The other problem is that there doesn't seem to be a pressure standard tied to it. We refer to the original Norma loads that put a 170 grain pellet out at 1400 fps or a 200 at 1200. The Silvertip used to be quoted at 165gr at 1265.  We need a maximum pressure standard to define a useful magum load to differentiate it from the .40 S&W. I propose 40,000 psi. A touch more than a .357 Mag but less than a .44 Mag or .41 mag.  This would protect us from manufacturers reducing the power of the 10 to a .40 S&W and making full powerful ammunition unavailable and a legal liability. Any other pressure nominations?

Welcome all!

The only problem with 10mm is the fact it isn't mainstream. That's good and bad. It's readily available unlike other calibers in the crunch, but many people don't shoot it.

Welcome RVL, we could rename it the .40 kiloton

RVL, welcome to the forum! I hope I didn't make you mad if you read the other thread you posted in about the rebranding! :-X

We are quite passionate about our favorite cartridge!  ;D
