Hello all,

I did a search and read through all the replies regarding longshot powder. I saw one post regarding 165gr bullets and several referencing 135 gr bullets. I have found the load data listed for the heavier bullets but I'm interested in the 155 XTP.

1. Does anybody have load data for longshot under the 155s?

2. Why couldn't a safe load be worked up from the .40 loading data? ie: taking a warm to hot commercial ammo, using the same brass I have (starline), miking it after shooting, then working up from the .40 load and miking each of those until I get the velocity I am looking for, or stopping at the load which shows the same case expansion as I got from the commercial ammo?

Thanks!

Double Tap used 9.6 & 9.4 grains LongShot under his 165 grain Rem Golden Saber

Georgia Arms also was using 9.6 grains under the 155 grain Gold Dots
Muzzle Velocity: 1375 fps
Muzzle Energy: 650 ft. lbs

QuickLoad calculates a max of 9.7 grains of Longshot with a Hornady 155gr XTP @ 1.260 COAL.

in case you need to load it shorter Quickloads says 8.75gr of Longshot with a 155gr XTP @1.200 COAL.

These are only references. Use at your own risk.

Looking on my older data for when I used to load for the 10mm:

155gr XTP, 12.0gr Longshot @ 1.250" = 1,425 fps (Stock G20)
10mm + .40 S&W

Iam just guessing here but I was under the impression that longshot was a slow burning powder usually used for heavier bullets and that longshot would have a lot of unbent powder left in the barrel? I am not trying to be condescending by any means, i was also looking at some good powders for the exact same weight and if I can find  some AA#9 I  want to try .

It is, you're right. BUT, even if it is not terribly efficient, it makes up for it with sheer velocity.

Well I have and can find @lgs is longshot and I am itching to try a warm -hot(not nuclear) 155 grain load using Hornady xtps and Hodgdon doesn't show any loads using longshot for 155grainers so,where would be safe to start with stock G20sf,new Starline brass and Remington large pistol primers?

Have you browsed the forum's pull-down section?  There are a few loads using LongShot,  DT, UW, GA, while you don't have to load to those levels you can certainly used reduced loads or lighter loads shown from the heavier bullets to achieve yours.
here is the Georgia Arms link; http://10mm-firearms.com/factory-10mm-ammo-pull-downs/georgia-arms-155gr-180-speer-gdjhpp-pull-downs/

Then there is Hodgdon's data from their website...
