8 round capacity just won't cut it. I want to write Sig and let them know how I feel, but don't want to sound ungrateful.

My biggest concern is that these things don't sell and they cancel the program. How many people are really going to drop $1,200-$1,400 on one of these? What is the role this gun can fill that others can't? What will make it successful?

Will a police department pick it up? Obviously not with an 8 round capacity and that price tag.
Military? Not a chance.
Concealed carry? The 220 is a huge gun and there are better options.
Home protection? Obviously 10mm is great but just about any pistol/revolver can work for that.
Hunting? Possibly. The single action model might make a good deer/black bear/hog pistol. But a Witness Hunter has a 6 inch barrel and costs less.

The only thing I see this pistol being good for is competition shooting. But that won't sell guns. Our competition shooting section of this forum only has 5 topics. Sig won't make money off of those type of collectors.

Sig needs to go back to the drawing board, come up with a 15 round P226 or P227 for around $850-$1,100 depending on features. I'd buy two on the spot.

I don't want to sound ungrateful as well, any additional exposure or attention 10mm gets is helpful to us all, but this new Sig offering seems to me to be barely more than novelty. The only thing exceptional about this gun is that it's a Sig. It doesn't offer anything another other gun on the market doesn't already currently offer other than the fact that none of them are a Sig. If it was 2/3 the price or had double the capacity, then we'd be talking. As it is: it lacks more that it provides so it just doesn't seem worth it. To each their own; everyone has their priorities.

I have a coworker who is a huge sig fan and I got him hooked on the 10mm so he has been talking about how nice it would be if sig made a 10mm for a couple years. Needless to say he's buying it.

I think the capacity issue is a bit overblown. I mean, no one complains that a P220 in .45 ACP is a problem with only 8 rounds yet all of a sudden a P220 in 10mm with 8 rounds is? I like my 1911's and nothing will replace them but I never saw 7-8 rounds as a problem there either. Bottom line is Sig makes a nice gun and if they make it in 10mm, I want one :) I'm not crazy about the price either as I wish it was cheaper but its not too far off the price mark of some of their other higher end P226's and P220's in other calibers. I think a company like Sig jumping into the 10mm market is a big deal.

.45 ACP fans might not complain about 8 round capacity, because they are used to 8 round capacity. I think most of us might be apprehensive because what if we drop the $1,400 on one of these P220's, then in 6 months they actually come out with a high capacity version? I have no use for two, so I'll wait to see if they'll make one high capacity. The bad thing is if nobody buys them while we wait for a high capacity 10mm from Sig, they might just cancel the entire thing.

Well, I won't get a Glock because my rather small short fingered hands won't fit on a double stack magazined gun very well. Single stacks fit me oh so much better. And once again, I feel if I need more than 8 shots, I should be running, not shooting!
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

gandog56

Has anybody actually seen one of these SIGs in a gun store yet? Are they really out now?

I don't know that they are actually shipping yet. As we all know Sig likes to say one date and actually do another. The gt20 gun isn't supposed to ship till 1st so that one has some time yet.

Wolfie

Lipseys is to get the regular run first. Then they will ship them to the LGS.

As much as I was enamored with these I have to admit I would rather get the RIA 6" I think may be an overall better value. But probably end up with both. :D

Like I said, I own a SIG P229. It is one of my favorite pistols. I also own a RIA Tac II 10mm. But I have a long slide covered by a Fusion Firearms 10mm Hunter.

Looks like it shoots like a 1006. They put some Doubletap 135gr Noslers through it too. If it's the latest stuff I tested here recently with 800-X, they are the strongest 135's to date.

I got a call from dury's Saturday. They were collecting info for shipping on the gt20's. Looks like they expect to have mine to my ffl mid April.

You should see what velocity a 135 grain load does in my 16" Mechtech CCU, using my Dan Wesson Razorback as the lower.
