I am planning on pistol hunting next season for deer, bear, and pig in California and am looking for some recommendations from your experience. I own a kimber eclipse 2 in 10mm and also have a Springfield 1911 that needs some work but have a 5 in 10mm compensated barrel for it. From what I'm reading the 10mm round really performs with the 6+" barrel. I have never shot a glock and plan to rent one this weekend to try it out, I don't mind spending the coin to build one of my 1911's or picking up a glock. If I go for a glock what model do you guys have good luck with? I appreciate any insight you have.

If you want to have real fun, order a barrel from Match Grade Machine in 10" and get yourself a Thompson Center Contender frame.

You could also just look into getting a quality 6 or 7 inch barrel for your 1911.

I had a Glock 20 back in the day (the first Generation of the 10mm Glocks) and used it for Wild Pig hunting at that time.
It's my DiMMe

With a few minor tweaks my glocks are my favorite semi autos, one goes with me everywhere i go. some aftermarket sights (i have truglo tritium and a set of williams fire sights) along with a 3.5lb connector and some minor polishing and i am happy with them. I am am not easily impressed by guns, but these two have got me for sure. Both are late gen 3, one 20 and one 23.
I do want another gen 3 20 to set up as a long slide with a 6" barrel for woods walking and hunting.

Welcome to the Forum, Dirt Track
I take it you're in Kali, so there may be a limited number of Pistols that you'll find the Commies there will allow
The Witness Hunter is a very fine 10mm (6") offering

I have been eye balling the para, we are limited on what we can get her in Cali unfortunately. I appreciate the replies

I built this Glock to hunt with.  The gun is a 20SF; I added a KKM 6" barrel, JPoint reflex sight, and reworked the trigger to 3 lbs. 10 oz.  I haven't had the opportunity to take any game with it, but I have carried it the last two years hunting for deer and wild boar.

I am shooting 180 grain Nosler JHP's at 1320 fps. and 190 grain FNGC's at 1335 fps.  I also have some 230 grain FNGC's loaded to 1225 fps.  This gun will shoot all loads around 2" at 35 yards.

That is a nice set up. I didn't make it to the range yet. Hopefully will in the next few days to try out a glock. If I don't like it I'll build my 1911

If you buy the G30 -45 cal you can also put a 10mm barrel in it also with out changing any thing else - now if Im right kali can only go by the serial # on the frame not the barrel so that make 2 calibers for one gun - or with the 20 you can run 10mm - s&w 40cal - Sig 357 - Dillion 9x25 with out changing anything else in the gun - except the barrel - something to think about.

Not sure that's correct
The Breach Face isn't near the same for the .45acp and the 10mm
Yes, the 10mm Slide will allow for the use of .40 S&W, .357 SIG and the 9X25mm Dillon by a simple Barrel change and maybe a different Magazine for the .40cal and .357 SIG

I have messed and tweaked my G20 over the years but starting fresh and not getting into red dots like I did earlier I would say get a Glock 20 sf with a 6 inch kkm barrel, a Ghost edge trigger connector and Trijicon HD sights. You would not be left wanting at all.

Yes the breach is slightly larger from 45 to 10mm - but have seen and know one person that has that setup and has had no problems - there is someone on this board that has that setup also - I can't remember who he is - but also said his work fine also' If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would have not believed it either. He did use 10mm clips when he went 10mm on it , the 45 clips wouldn't feed right.

Buy a 610 with a 6inch barrel & run some of the hotter / heavier  loads

I would if I could find one, I have a kto 1911 frame on order and will be doing an sti longslide set up with a 7 inch ported barrel. It should be a sweet set up when its all done. I shot a glock and didn't care for it so 1911 it is.
