Interesting 10mm for Bear information

   In particular the last couple posts about the real life experiences using a heavy Hardcast in .44 Magnum. It seems the 240gr XTP in .44 and 200gr XTP's in 10mm are preferred. The new Underwood 140gr will be neat to watch when the tests start rolling out. I don't know if they can make a heavier version of it and keep the velocity up or not?

Yea, the 100% is lighter and longer than lead bullets of the same weight so that will make them way longer trying to get them heavier.  Even if the removed those grooves to fill the bullet out it would still need to be longer for a good amount of weight leaving less room for powder.

I wonder how to quantify tissue damage? Would the gel test give us something?

Since its a solid rather than a Jhp it will still penetrate quite deep I would think.

Yeah...But until they lets us buy depleted uranium bullets, not much is going to trump hard cast heavy lead for penetration.  It really is all about mass/volume, and lead always wins that fight among the realistic options.

Never gotten to see these face off in ballistic gel. The XTP which is your premium hunting JHP will go maybe 20 inches. While lead hardcast and this should go a few feet. Here's a video of an underloaded .357 mag still doing pretty incredible damage. Imagine a fully loaded .357 or 10mm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6-JmzXF6Zk

I bet the hardcast would be the way to go against a giant Grizz but for black bear I would think this would be preferable.

I'm using 200gr XTP's for deer and 200gr HCFP for wild pigs - since my M_T is 10MM with a G20sf lower - I carry a mag of each with me - here we can hunt pigs all year long - bear ? I think having a mag of both should cover that also.

200gr wfn double tap for me as it had the biggest meplat I could buy at the time and ive had all of mine load and go bang in both my guns. G20sf and gen 4.
