At the range today.

A man noticed that I was firing 10's and he mentioned he had a 1076 and may sell it. Going to give me first dibs, he said it was one of the last series built, and went back to the factory where it was corrected and marked with 2 dimples.

Says its mint, any idea what its worth and or if its a good gun.

Thanks

1076 is a great gun.

Searching gunbroker in the last 60 days they have had actions end with a lowest bid of $599.99 and a high bid of over $1000.00

If you aren't a collector and just wanna add one to your safe, I personally wouldn't go much over $750-$800.  But, if you gotta have it, you gotta have it.

Hard to get the opportunity to get one of these guns in NY.

Lots of hoops and the guy is right down the road.

I was also thinking no more than $800

Thanks

Wolfie here is a little info for Smith & Wesson 1076 - 10mm pistols 13,805 units produced 1990-93

S&W 1076- 4.25" barrel, frame mounted decocker traditional double action
These can be decocked by pushing down on the frame mounted decocking lever, the hammer is dropped to a half or partially cocked position and pulling the trigger will cock and fire the pistol.  After the gun is fired it is fully recocked and the gun is fired single action till empty or decocked.  The hammer when dry fired will be all the way down but pulling the trigger will cock and fire the gun.  Some models can be fired without the magazine present if the magazine disconnect is removed.  FBI models worked this way..

All civilian 1076s came with the magazine disconnect. Law enforcement 1076s may or may not have the disconnect depending on the agency. FBI 1076s do not have the magazine disconnect. They may, or may not, have a caution statement. The FBI demanded that any caution statement be removed. Early production FBI 1076s still have the empty disconnector hole machined into the slide. At the FBI's request the disconnector hole was not machined into the slide in later production pistols. Another example is the Virginia State Police Model 1026. It has no disconnector but retains the disconnector hole in the slide. It also features the law enforcement caution statement on the slide.

Good luck with your decision!  :D
