Anyone else think 10 mm ammo is getting a little easier to find and better $$'s?

If you use Ammoseek.com you can find decent (Armscor 10mm 180gr.) range ammo for under $20.00 and a lot more choices?

Maybe it's just me?

I don't buy commercial ammo, so I haven't noticed one way or the other.  I do know powder is still impossible to find.  I was at the LGS over the weekend and they had exactly 3 lbs of slow rifle powder (Retumbo and 50 BMG) and 1 lb of fast rifle powder (somthing new...don't remember).  Nothing I could use though.

Here is what does chap my hide a bit.  The most common reason I read that guys avoid the 10mm is ammo price.  And yet, I can't really think it is that much more to commercially reload 180 grain 40S&W to 950 fps than to reload the same bullet in 10mm once fired brass to 950 fps.  Maybe an extra $2-$3/k.

But, commercial 40 S&W reloads...$11 per 50.  That is 22¢ each.  10mm?  $19.19 per 50.  That is 38¢ each.

If they would load it, shooters would come.

Damn I bumped heads with sqlbullet as I was posting...

Buckeye 50, I have never had a shortage of 10mm ammo ever since I started handloading it since March 1990!   ;D

As components become more available things will get better with time...people's have probably saturated their ammo lockers and slowed down buying most things except 22LR which will continue to be absorbed as it hits shelves... ::)

10mm DoubleTap has been available during pretty much the whole shortage time.  But non-plus-P .44 special (which I've been constantly looking for since getting my .44mag S&W69) is almost nonexistent.

Addendum: I just checked Ammoseek ... no hits at all for Fiocchi .44 special.

My local store has Blazer at $30, Armscor at $30 and the new Federal Trophy at $35.

He also sells "Obsolete Ammo" in 10mm white box for $25, shoots real nice with star brass. Cannot find info on the company. Anyone else shoot it.

I've never had good luck with Blazer aluminum cases, I've had more than a few primers blow out the back of the case on me while shooting. I won't buy it anymore.....

Yeah.  I have seen issues with Blazer too.  Never shot it in my gun, but a range buddy ran some in his witness.  It was enough to make him start reloading.

I had a .40S&W case split from Blazer. That was in a fully supported chamber too. Will not use Aluminum cases ever again. ESPECIALLY not on a Higher pressure load like 10mm.

I have found that gunbot.net [name is odd since it is ammo, haha] works better for me personally due to the greater number of retailers participating but I do check ammoseek on occasion.  For me though, I have found a handful of online retailers that have a good selection of the calibers I shoot, have good customer service and good shipping/packing practices.  For me here in TX, I have to consider the 8.5% sales tax that others do also and that can make a deal be in reality, no so great.  That is what I would encourage everyone to do, but there are also some retailers that members on this forum have turned me onto also.

Fact remains that 9mm, 45 acp and 40S&W run 20-25¢ a shot, and 10mm runs 35-40¢ a pop.

And that ammo price deters a bunch of potential 10mm buyers.  In another forum I belong to I started the thread about the potential 10mm Sig.  It went on for three pages, 40+ posts.  All enthused about it.

But when it actually comes, probably only one other guy on the thread will actually buy.  And the others won't because of ammo cost.

I can accept a small premium due to economy of scale.  But 80% more?

Supply and demand. Even though in some areas it is snapped up off the shelf as soon as the LGS gets it in, if no one knows the LGS has it, it can sit for months without moving. I just struck a deal with a local shop that deals in range brass. Most people don't know the shop is around. They just sold me bags of 10mm range brass at $12 per 100, which is Half of anyone else local because it has been sitting on his shelf for the last year. I told him if he doesn't mind that price, if he puts it out for say a month and it doesn't move, I will be more than glad to buy it off him.

As much ammo as some of you guys buy I'm really surprised you don't just start  handloading. Especially since 10mm isn't the most popular cartridge in the world.  There's nothing Buffalo Bore, Double Tap or Underwood ammo sells that you can't reproduce yourself with tighter tolerances cheaper.
