More 1006 madness

   Currently about 3 on Broker in the $800+ range. I think we are in need of something based on that. Still kind of crazy what they go for although they aren't made anymore.

   I held the .45 version of it the other day at the range for the first time and thought it wasn't all that.

I was following the NIB 1006 model. It's in GA so I'd have to pay state sales tax on top of the rest........seen lesser ones go for 1K. A lot of what you're seeing is people putting money into what they see as 'investor collectible firearms'. Bond market is in the toilet, interest rates are at the lowest of my lifetime and the stock market is too unstable. Quality firearms at least hold some value even if they don't appreciate. Many do appreciate quickly.....Colt Pythons come to mind. Many worse places to put your money these days.

Just seems a bit much for it. Won't be long until someone puts up a Cali PD special wanting 2k for it. I wouldn't own one of those!

I was wrong, I thought sure that one would go over 1K. About every three months there's a firearm auction in a small town SW of here (Macon, GA). Everything from collector type to NIB rifles, shotguns and handguns. You'd think in Podunk you'd get some deals.......wrong...same kind of sale prices and they add on a ~18% buyers premium. Ouch....

Even the local pawn shops and gun stores watch internet prices.....one local gun store keeps five pages of guns for sale on Gunbroker all the time.

If ever there was a firearm I wish there had been more of, it's the 10 series. Simply because there is such little known about them. Because of that fact, all I have to go by, is what others say about them, and what little I personally know.

  That being said, what I know is, they are big, and heavy, for what they are. Especially compared to a 1911, or Glock. Now for the bad news of what I've heard. They do not hold up on the 10MM platform. I know of no one, who has shot thousands of rounds threw a 10X, so no way of knowing for sure.

   Although the 10 series look is up on the cool scale, I personally, don't want that kind of an investment, that is big, heavy, and not durable. Especially, when I can have big, light, durable, at about half the price!

  If I'm going to spend in the neighborhood of a grand, I'm going Kimber, or Dan Wesson, in a 1911 10MM. At least I'd be getting slimmer, slightly smaller, and same capacity. Not to mention easy parts availability.

Of course, if,  one were looking for, a somewhat rare, collectors piece, safe queen, the 10 series, may just be something to have!

Actually there was 151 of the S&W1046 with 5" barrels made, yes I do have one in my collection...
The 1086 is the 4.25" version Double Action only!
