Hey everyone,

This is a great forum lots of information and seem like a great group of people.
I do not currently own a 10mm auto firearm. But I have great aspirations of owning one.

It all started with a search for a 1911. I currently load 45 acp and own an xds and a kahr cw 45. Both nice guns that fit my needs for carry. I was looking into the 1911 as a range gun and for potential carry during the winter months(Michigan gets cold in the winter). While looking at 1911's i came upon the colt delta elite chambered in 10 mm. Before this I have only heard of the 10 mm and assumed it was a fringe cartridge that would go the way of the dodo.

But I started looking into the 10 mm, learning about its past and the offspring of cartridges that helped bring into the world. I eventually became just impressed with the 10mm. I love the fact that you can download it to 40 sw or really increase it to the upper levels of power. There is a lot of flexibility with it. For reloading the potentials seem limitless.

So I have decided that I would like to get a 10 mm pistol. I was originally looking at the 1911 platform but for budget constraints like many the delta elite is out of my ball park.( I originally was looking into a para 1911").  But the selection of 10 mm guns is limited. So I have narrowed it down to a few.

My first choice is glock 29
second, eaa witness polymer
third glock 20.

I will say the i am intrigued by the glocks a little more due to flexibility of conversions with 40sw,357 sig, 9x25 dillon. Which I would all love to shoot an reload for.

The eaa witness i am mainly impressed with price, and looks, and cz75ish mechanics, these can also be converted with purchase of new slide kit. But i have read up on durability concerns. Are these hit and miss and or are they fixed?Steel or polymer?

As you can see I have got the 10 mm bug, but am in a predicament of the pistol to start my 10mm fascination.  So any tips, ideas, answers, or help would be greatly appreciated!

Since your original inclination was a 1911, I would suggest you look at the Rock Island /Armscor 1911 in 10mm.

They are a great value in a 10mm 1911.

Can't go wrong with a Glock unless you don't like Glocks.  I have a G29 and it is a very good small 10mm.

If you elect to go with a EAA model, I strongly suggest you look at the Elite line of guns.  They are all rock solid. The standard line can be a little hit/miss on quality.

As an owner of a Rock Island in 10mm, all I can say is that it is worth Every Penny I paid. There are a few options that could bring it into a price range you want. Mine is the 2011 (1911 with rail) full size with adjustable rear sights, VZ grips. It truly is a sweet handling gun.

48conkli, welcome to the forum!  If you don't have a 10mm gun yet, be warned if you buy one you will want another one & yet another...Contagious I tell you!  :o

There are many to choose from, with that said, I suppose cost being the limiting factors.  In the 1911 platform it is as low cost as the RIA which is said to be loaded with features in that price range to the extremes with something like the STI line up or a collectible Bren Ten.  The S&W lineup is discontinued but many on the market, however parts are limited these days.

Take your time in your selection looking for a gun with great chamber characteristics and the ones that feel great in your hand.

Enjoy the forum!  :D

If I were going to only own one 10MM, hands down it would be the G20. Have had a few G29's, great firearm, compact, just not enough difference in size to the 20 to consider it, a better carry option. Most of the difference in the two, is weight, and the five lesser rounds accounts for most of that difference.

The Rock Island is a no brainer if wanting the 1911 platform, simply because you are talking half the price of the other offerings.

The tangfolio is one I've often considered, but, will admit, the mixed reviews, on reliability, and, magazine availability have held me back.

Get a G20, you will be pleased as most of us have.

Another vote for the glock 20, i love mine.  Put better sights on it and add a 3.5lb connector with a little polishing on the contact points to reduce friction and its my favorite pistol. Mine is here to stay, that does not happen often with me.

Thanks everyone who posted. I decided to go with the glock 29. Actually I bought it today. I have only put 8 rounds through it but it is fun and my wife likes shooting it too.
I decided on the 29 for being compact. I also have researched a bit into using the glock 20  15 rd mags in the 29 with the grip sleeves. Not a tight factory fit like on Springfields but definately fits the need.

Thanks again, you all should know I am hooked on the 10 mm already.

Also a good note my wife has shot it and likes it too.

Congrats!  However that new gun may wind up being your wife's!   :o  Yes the G-29 is a sweet shooter, the pinky extensions on the mags can add extra control surfaces and the sleeves, fills the gap of the 15 rounders.

Best regards!  ::)

Great choice.  I very much like mine.  It disappears where others won't.
