Leather, Hybrid or Kydex

What do you prefer? and why?

Up to now I have predominately used leather/kydex hybrids from a number of companies.  Most recently I tried an Alien Gear for my 1911.  It is less bulky than a Crossbreed Supertuck, but a touch harder to re-holster.  I also don't expect it to wear as well as the leather is getting chewed up from the front of my slide each time I holster the gun.

Thinking about trying either a straight leather holster, probably from Adams Leather or HBE Leatherworks, or a straight Kydex holster like the ones from Overwatch Holsters.

Regardless the holster will be IWB and most likely be for either a 5" 1911 or a Glock 29.

What say you?  What are your strong opinions about EDC holsters?

As you know, I went with the Hybrid from Crossbreed.

Since I may soon be wearing a Back Brace all the time, I have started looking into adding a belt system for carrying on the brace which will give me more options.

I do not like the All Kydex. That is what I had for my prior EDC.

BTW, my Crossbreed is so comfortable, I fell asleep in the recliner last night while wearing it with my gun in place.
It's my DiMMe

I do this all the time.  Crossbreed and AlienGear are neck in neck for comfort.

The funniest is when my older kids forget I carry and try to jab my ribs.  Shoving their fingers into 40 oz of steel makes them dance in such a funny way :P

Hybrid is what I always end up using. The kydex is uncomfortable and the leather is difficult to holster and if wet very difficult to unholster. I have a old faithful hybrid for almost every gun I own plus some I don't. I ordered a alien gear holster for my new eaa to try that.

I tried 3 different hybrids and each one was like strapping on a brick. Threw one into the trash and gave the other two away. All the holsters I own now are real leather. Alessi Bodyguard, Sparks Summer Special II, Overland gun Leather,Bullard Bodyguard, and Sparks Nexus I'm waiting on. Leather will conform to my body and is comfortable next to my skin. Leather will not crack and break like thin plastic will. Leather is quiet and doesn't squeak like plastic. Since I don't swim in my holsters I don't have a problem with drawing from it. Its basically a personal choice and only you can decide which is right for you. Yes, custom leather goods cost more than plastic but to me they are worth it.

The leather of the hybrid does conform well for me and the solid kydex does feel like a brick. I have never had an issue with kydex cracking but I have had a Tagua leather holster tear. I do some hiking and I get caught in rain from time to time including last Saturday. I have nothing against leather all of my owb holsters are.

Same experience, here.

My current CCW is all kydex.  It works well.  Easy to re-holster, and I can forget I have it on.  I'm not one to buy lots of holsters, so I try to make first purchases work.  ( I haven't been totally successful with that), but have been with my CCW, which is a Kel-Tec PF9.  I plan on switching to a striker fired CCW one of these days.  Which one, I do not know yet, but the holster I am giving serious consideration to when I do is the N82 Tactical Holster.  It has a soft suede leather backing that is shaped so than no part of the gun ever touches your skin.  That sounds very appealing to me as I hate the feeling of kydex next to my skin, hence I'm always pulling my underwear up high enough so that the grip doesn't touch the skin.

I like the feel of leather, I have 3 different Galco FLETCH's for 3 different guns. Very comfortable to wear all day....

I have around a dozen 1911 holsters and I wear five of them depending on what I want. 3 iwb 2owb.

I go with the Crossbreed... but don't like the Kydex.  The kydrex is hard on the finish if that worries you much.

Now to find a IWB all leather as comfy as above that doesn't stick on draw due to belt tightness

Not really meeting the norm here but I prefer all kydex holsters with a solid belt clip. Easy to put on and take off. Secures the gun perfectly. Also easy to holster and unholster. I don't find them uncomfortable. I've tried leather and hybrids as well. Nothing feels wonderful really. Just have to get used to wearing a holster.
