I recently ran some factory rounds over the chronograph, firearm was a new Wilson Combat Tactical Elite.  I posted this on 1911.com but thought that this forum is a good place to post it too.

Underwood 180 grain T.M.J Item #241

Underwood 155 grain XTP item #232
High 1488.6
Low 1416.9
ES 71.7
Mad 27.6
Avg 1451.8 Note: Underwood rates these at 1500 fps

Average temperate during the shooting session was 98-100 degrees. As you can see, the average speed that I recorded is pretty close to the factory ratings. The Underwood 155 grain Hornady XTP was the farthest off by about 50 fps. All in all not bad considering the differences in test firearms and conditions.

Wonder why the spreads are so high?

That's a good question.  The only thing that I noticed is that the spread increased with the higher velocity rounds.

Its a older Pack Chronograph, probably about 20 years old.  The pistol is a new Wilson Combat Tactical Elite with the flanged 5" barrel.

Thank you Sir.  I always like to know what the velocity readings are from factory loads and my reloads.

The fact that the extreme spread and the mean absolute deviation both increased dramatically with Underwood ammo would indicate that quality control isn't as high.

That may be an issue at Underwood, or it may be an issue up stream in the components he is getting.

The spreads could be due to the recoil spring weight.

I might by recoil spring weight in a Glock where spring weight has a huge impact on unlock timing.  But in a 1911 that shouldn't be a significant factor.
