I really wanted the Compact Steel Witness to work, but its simply not reliable.  I love the CZ-75 platform and this was the next logical step.  No 10mm, but if it works, I'll live with that.

This is the alloy frame (aluminum) version with the traditional safety (no decocker).

With the 10 round magazine...

With the 14 round inserted (and the 10 round next to it)...

Stubby 3" barrel and RSA

I ran the first rounds through it yesterday.  I went to Gander Mountain and picked up a 350 round pack of Blazer Brass, a box of Speer GD 124g +p short barrel, and a box of 115 g Hornady Critical Defense.

I ran 114 rounds of the Blazer with no malfunctions of any kind.

I burned the box of Speer GD, and that gave me my only failure to feed of the day, and that happened with the 14 round magazine.  I was wanting that to work because I had it in my head that it might be my ammo of choice.

I only had 10 rounds of the Hornady, which fed perfectly, but it was a very limited sample.

All in all, 1 ftf in 144 rounds.  It looks like I may have found my carry gun!  I just need to discover an ammo that works well.

Likes/Dislikes from Day1 at the range.

The gun feels good, but a little chunkier in the grip when compared to the Tanfoglio clones.  The Witness line has a deeper dip in the top of the grip and it makes the CZ seem like the beaver tail is too low.  The CZ has ok sights, but I found the Witness quicker to pick up in actual use.  The three little dots were too small for my old eyes and I ended up just using them like the dots didn't exist.

Considering the short barrel, the gun is accurate, and seems like a bigger gun when aiming and fireing at the target.  It can throw some decent groups!

For the most part (one exception) the gun was comfortable to shoot.  The short magazine leaves my little finger off the grip and under the magazine.  I actually found it comfortable and never ever came to mind when shooting.  The 14 round magazine allows plenty of room for all fingers on grip, but looks a bit out of proportion.  That magazine is also comfortable to shoot.

The exception to the "comfortable to shoot" was a rubbing on the bottom edge of my trigger finger just outside of the joint.  The trigger wraps around the finger and rubbed that area raw during the session.  I thought it would blister, but I must have stopped in time.

Trigger was generally good, in so much as I never really had to think much about it.  It just worked fine for the purpose.  The double action was decent and was able to hold a tight group when uncocking between shots.

Another odd problem is the 10 round magazine when it contains exactly 10 rounds.  It rattles.  The closest thing I can think of to describe it is it sounds like one of the interchangable bit screw driver that stores the extra bits in the handle and it rattles the same when you shake it.  It doesn't do it with less that ten rounds.  You can take the loaded magazine and rap it against the heel of your hand a half dozen times before inserting into the gun to quiet it down, but strange none the less.

A side note in comparison to the Tanfoglio  SA/DA implementation.  I lost what was my primary carry condition, which was uncocked and locked.  The thing differed from cocked and locked by a double action first trigger pull, which I felt to be safer.  That is not possible with the CZ.  Its either cocked and locked, or its a double action trigger pull with safety off.

With the struggle with the Compact Steel Witness, I found the little CZ to be a very nice little pistol.  Fit and finish are great, function is a big improvement, it handles recoil well, and I'm really liking the little thing.
