I picked these up at a show over the weekend. Not really for perfomance value but because I'd never seen them before and thought the idea was errr, unique, because more often than not 10mm taken in the other direction in the velocity spectrum. When I got home I checked to see if anyone else had come across this stuff and saw that sOnspark posted about it sometime ago but I wasn't able to see his picture to verify. I apologize if this is a double post. Thoughts?? See pics.

I thought "err...unique" summed it up pretty well. Or why??? :)

Yes, the sub sonic stuff was popular as close quarters defensive rounds or use with suppressed firearms.

Most rounds under 1140 @ sea level are considered to be subsonic, however the Winchester 10mm ammo run around 950-980, just like the old Black Talon of the day. ::)

I figured it was maybe good for law enforcement with suppressors. I guess it wouldn't be too ideal to have to engage in a fire fight with a bad guy indoors while having to fight recoil and being deafened by your full auto 10mm MP5 loaded with hot stuff  :o :o

Shadow, did you guys do a pull down on these particular rounds?

EdMc

950-980?

Now that illustrates what happens when the government gets involved in anything. :)) Simpler to just use 45ACP and make a bigger hole.

The_Shadow

I haven't done the Win SubSonic pull-down, but Winchester has blended many different proprietary powders to use they are hard to say exactly what they are using, I can only speculate what fits the performance profile with known powders and load data based on the charge weight they use and actual velocity.  :-[

I would thing that they would be very similar to the Ranger T line

Well, they also liked the sound wave it produced. Being supersonic, the sound wave was smaller, felt less.....however, slowing it down allowed the sound waves to be bigger and more disorientation.

.......Ok....I have no idea...but it sounded like I stayed in a Holiday Inn last night!  :D
Some days it's just good to be lucky; rather than just good looking!

Those are a nice keepsake.

And if the SHTF, they will work.

Assembled with new StarLine nickled cases, Hodgdon HS-6, and Federal 180g. HSTs pulled from their 40S&W rounds, mine achieve about 1090FPS, more than 100FPS more than that bullet from a 40.  So more power but just a little more muzzle blast, and recoil is more manageable for me, too.  See

As I've demonstrated, the HST's performance is excellent.

I have a couple boxes of Hornady 10mm 175 XTP rated at 1150 fps. Out of my G29 would be something like 1030 fps and little recoil so I think they would be good for carry.
