Nice!

I've got my own 180gr Plated HP loads to chrono but there are much milder (13.5gr). I have some more AA9 loads with 200 gr XTP's and some 200gr plated FP's to work up, too.

Anxious to see the rest of your data!

Giving that your Rainer's 180 HP are slightly longer bullets (0.616") vs the Federal Trophy Bonded 180 JSP at (0.600").  Reviewing the pull-down of the Federal as tested, the results may indicate that true copper jacketed gilding metal may have slightly more barrel friction than the copper plated bullets.

BTW TXCOONDOG, does the powder in the pan for the Federal pull-down look like your AA#9? ???

Yep without yellow.

Accurate # 9 used:

Thanks for the picture, that looks like the newer "flattened ball" as opposed to the older "microbead"...

The stuff Federal is using is lighter in color, looks like it lacks the darker graphite coatings, however the charge weights seem to fit the AA#9 profile and performance yield.  :D

I finished a 200gr XTP / AA9 / CCI300 / new Starline ladder yesterday.  It goes from 12.4 to 13.4gr AA9 in .2gr increments.  I also loaded up some 200gr Xtreme planted FP's at the same charges.  I'm going shooting later on this morning but won't be able to chrono the loads for a couple more weeks.  :(   At least they are loaded and ready to go when I get a chance to test them.

I ran into seating issues around 12.8-13.0gr under that 200gr XTP, btw.  Not EVERY round but most rounds seemed to NOT want to seat fully to 1.258".  I did find that, after charging and flaring the case, if I removed the round from the shellholder and shook it slightly to settle the powder, the bullet would seat more reliably.  I'm not sure if the powder just "settled" or if some of it went down into the flashhole.  Either way, it always allowed more space for the bullet to seat.

Will update here when I am able to test.

I think I'm gonna shoot a bunch of .22 today from the 22/45 in addition to running a few 180gr plated 13.5gr AA9 loads through the G20/FF3 combo.  I'm gonna snipe some orange dots today!

Happy Fathers Day, guys!

Did you see any marks from the seater plug on the 200XTP?  As they are being forced on top of the powder compressing the charge, some seater plugs start to squeeze the HP inward, leaving a small shiny ring where it contacts the bullet olgive.

I had that happen using the AA#9 "Micro Spheres" when testing as well.  One thing is certain you will not experience bullet set back!  :P

I don't recall seeing any seater plug marks on the bullet noses in finished cartridges but I'll check when I get back home. I got back from the range today and immediately changed clothes and we drive our to the in-laws for chicken wings on the grill :)

I WILL say that the range trip today was a resounding success despite not having been able to actually chrono any loads.

I sighted in my 22/45.... (I'd removed the FF3 from it and stuck it on my G20SF and replaced the front sight with a HiViz FO front and it needed a quick sight-in). I also shot the longslide Fusion and G20 a/ FF3 again. The Fusion is still bank vault right and smooth and butter and the G20 w/ FF3 is still flawless and puts heavy 10mm bullets EXACTLY where I direct them with flawless regularity).

I shot a few rounds of each if my AA9 workup ladders from the G20 (200gr XTP over 12.6, 12.8, 13.0, 13.2 and 13.4gr AA9) and measured case expansion from both the G20 (stock bbl) and the Fusion custom barrel. I had no troubles with either and measured max case expansion from the Fusion at .427" and max expansion of G20 barrel was .433 with a few .4335's, NOT my G20 bbl's max.

A good day so far!

Also...

The 13.4gr AA9 loads felt stout but nothing horrible and not even to the bark-level of my max Longshot loads....  So, they seem very safe and very accurate. Can't wait to test their velocities.
