I went to the brand spanking new Gander Mountain in Arlington,Texas this evening to see what all they had, finally found the 10mm section and only 2 choices. Both were 50 round boxes Remington 180gr fmj was $44.95 a box and PMC 180gr was $42.95! Got me to thinking its time to buy a reloader and find components. If I can't find the bullets then guess i can make them from 9mm brass. So what is everyone else paying these days?

I started handloading 1978, it was only natural for me to load for the 10mm, day one March 1990.  The only box of commercial ammo I purchased new, was the Winchester Black Talon 200gr (only shot one of those to dispatch a wounded deer) was my carry ammo at the time.

Later I picked up stuff in trades or private purchases, like Swamp Fox (for the history) the deal came with Bitterroot Valley, when I purchased my G-20SF, it came with several boxes of commercial ammo, DT, UW, Winchester Silvertips, American Eagle.

Casting my own bullets, lead me to continue with 10mm as well, this has been a good decision for self supply.  I am always on the look out for good deals on premium copper jacketed bullets to load specialty things... :D

I like handloading as much as shooting, it is a passion that is very rewarding in more ways than just saving money!  When you think of ammo like DT, UW, BB as custom loaded ammo and you can duplicate the ballistics with match grade performance while saving money, what's not to like.

if you have the time I say go for it!  8)

You'd get more bang for you buck ordering some Underwood or PBR with shipping versus that 40 S&W powered stuff.

Reloading is the way to go, but powders are hard to come by right now. I don't know how long this shortage has been going on for as I just decided to start ordering reloading equipment last week just for 10mm.

Selway has Hornady 180 grain XTP for $14.99 per box / 20, Buffalo Bore 180 JHP for$25.99 / 20, and Nugent 180 grain Speer UHP (God Dot) for $18.99 / 20.

Some of the better prices I have seen yet for self defense 10mm ammo.
