Gun Control?  Oh yes, the theory that becoming a victim is somehow morally superior to defending yourself & your family.  Makes perfect sense.

I remember reading that post!

IMHO the problem was a over charge. The pressures involved to blow a primer like that is huge probably twice standard pressures + !!!!!

It has NOTHING to do with the brass you used. Possibly the OAL combined with powder. But altho a primer can change pressures it's not likely to double it on its own. You mention LEE press... Was it also a LEE powder measure? Maybe a auto disc by chance?

Watch your powder charge and bullet seating depths. Remember the basics, start lo work up graduly if you change any piece back off and stray again. This is why there is lot numbers.

Airs good you respect the possibility this can happen with careless loading practices. ( No offence that's how I see it) if you watch what your doing, eliminate distractions by NOT loading when your tired or stressed you will not have this happen.

DM1906, can you elaborate on the kinds of issues you have seen in new brass that were show stoppers?  I load Starline and am into my third or fourth bag of 1000 new.  I have yet to have any problem with a new brass from them.  Just curious what you have seen.

Most recent was last March, (documented HERE, starting at post #105, with pics).  This would have been very bad, had I not "tested" the brass before putting the lot into service.  Yeah, it was a show stopper.  I've had similar incidents over the years with other calibers (including rifle), but not for many years, and not nearly as bad.  The unique part of this test, which had never occurred before, is it started at the first work-up load, which was very modest, and went unnoticed, other than an unusual cycling, attributed at the moment as a "too light" load.  The second round was the show stopper.  No doubt in my mind, had I fired it in an OEM barrel, it would have ruptured.

I have thought of this scenario too, but have not put it into practice. There is some merit to this strategy for sure. Needless to say, I am thinking, hmmm.

Ummmm.... You didn't read the posts.  Careless?  I don't think so.  Thanks for the advice.

DM,
I obviously struck a cord with you. I apologies for my comment (I did say no offence ment) I also said I read the post some time back.  I will re read the post you linked.

I ask about the auto disc cause I have seen these things happen with this item IF it's not kept very clean. ( I have sold many of them over the years)

Again apologies, guess I have bigger feet than I realized. ;(
