I'm in the market for a chronograph.

I've been shopping for my first chrono and wanted some suggestions.  Most have  good reviews, but every system has it's fair share of negative feedback. I don't have enough money to buy anything high end and i don't want to buy a turd. I will be using it both indoors and outdoors. I already have a nice tripod. What other accessories should I consider?

I have the CHRONY brand F1 Master with the remote display, I built my own switch setup to retrieve the extra data String, Hi, Lo, adv, es, sd.  It works fairly well for its price point, good light and batteries are a must.  Excessive blast can throw the reading off if too close.

The F1 looks pretty sweet. And, comes with the remote display at a good price. Have you had any problems with yours, Shadow? I'm loading 10mm with Bluedot. That's some blasty powder. How far back should I put the chrono? Putting it further away worries me that I'll shoot the thing

I usually shoot at 8' to 10' for pistol testing

I also have a chrony, and have been satisfied with it.  Occasionally the RCBS Ammomaster will go on sale at Cabelas for the same price as the entry level Chrony.  If you can get that deal it is a good one as well.

I have used a Competition Electronics ProChrono for 24 years.  Never had a minutes trouble out of it.  It will accurately read everything I have shot across it except for some large, heavy caliber Encore pistols.  I have an indoor lighting kit I use when checking bows indoor.

I have a new Caldwell chronograph kit. I've only used it twice. I really like it especially the part where it hooks up to my iPhone for capturing the data

Also the price is fantastic at $150. That includes tripod light kit etc.

That Caldwell deal seems pretty good. That said I have a prochrono and am satisfied with its abilities.

I ordered the Chrony F1 from Midway. It was between that one and the Competition Electronics. The F1 comes with the remote display, which is nice feature. Midway was offering a rare deal, too. (they hardly ever offer deals) I got $30 off an order over $150. So I piled on a box of Rainier 180gr hp and an extra shell holder for basically free.  I will be able to finally see how bad my handloads are. Of course, it's going to rain all week and I'm real busy at work, so it will be probably a couple weeks before i can get to the range. Oh well, that will give me time to load up those Rainers hollow points.
