I own several 10mm's now, 2-610's, & both the Glock's, the 20 & 29, and absolutely love the caliber inside and out. But, I am wanting a good conceal carry 10mm, that might be lighter than my Glock 29, and I have a chance to buy a really nice S&W 1066, and want to know if this would be a good choice or not.  I hunt with the 10mm, and target shoot quite often, but I also have had a conceal carry license for 5 years, and want to carry a 10mm also, instead of my S&W .38 special, or my Para Slim Hawg .45auto. I am selling off all of my 45 auto guns and ammo, etc... now, as a 10mm is far superior to the 45acp round, as far as I'm concerned. I killed a 600lb wild boar last winter with one of my S&W 610's, and had the thrill of my life so far! Any advice or help that anyone can give me will be much appreciated! Thank you in advance to all of my fellow 10MM friends out there.

A 1066 is easily going to weigh 3/4 -1 lbs more than a G29.  I wanna say they weigh in about 40 oz.  Not light guns.  In fact, that was one very legitimate complaint the FBI had with the 1076.

I think it is a great gun, and would not hesitate to add one to my arsenal.  But, as a concealed carry choice vs a G29 where weight is the concern, the G29 is a much lighter gun.

Thank you for your response, I appreciate it! If I buy the 1066, I will need a different style of carry holster for it. Thanks for enlightening me on the weight of the 1066. The only S&W semi-auto that I have ever owned was the M&P .45 auto, and it shot great, but like most of my .45 auto's, its already sold. Not only the weight of it, I am also wondering how the 1066 shoots and functions. It looks like a nice gun. It is Smith & Wesson's smallest 10mm isn't it?

The 1066's are my favorite 10mm of the S&W models, perfect balance and very concealable. I'd recommend a 1066 over a 1006 any day of the week. You'll note in my pic of 10mm's that I like spares, five 1066's in all.

Patman, what 10mm load was used on the boar? One shot, DRT, yardage, etc? Interested to hear how that scene went down - I bet it was exciting to say the least!

I have 3 1066's they are an excellent gun. For me it is not to heavy to carry. If you can pick one up for a decent price you won't regret it. There are plenty of holsters available for this gun. I have a Tucker Gun Leather and a Kramer. Both good quality.

;)Well, I have been looking at a S&W 1066 lately, but ended up just buying a really nice Performance Center 4006 .40 S&W instead. This gun was too nice to pass up, as Performance Center guns really appeal to me.I wanted a good conceal carry gun, and with this certain one having a rare 3 1/2" barrel, and the fact that I can also use .40 caliber ammo in my Model 610's, I decided to go this route. I already own the Glock 29, this will give me some better options. Any thoughts on my decision? The gun I bought looks almost mint condition, and I'm looking forward to getting it. I will add pics as soon as I get it. But I would like everyone's input on this purchase. These are rare guns, so should hold their value well. Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Congrats on the 4006.
I have a CS40 that I had the barrel reamed to 10mm and reworked the mag to accept the longer rounds. I have put a couple hundred rounds through it, mostly reloads from 3 Gun but also some 165gr & 200gr Underwood, it shoots great.
I think I saw a post somewhere about a 4006 that was converted to 10mm. (I just found the post and it was a S&W 4013 not a 4006 that was converted to 10mm)

Thanks for your reply to my post Yankee2500, I appreciate it! Also, thanks for your pics, very nice gun! Converting it over to accept 10mm ammo is something I might consider, I don't know yet. I wash looking at the Performance Center guns when I ran across the 4006 pistol, and the fact that I have about 750rounds of .40 caliber ammo and just my Model 610'story shoot it with was also a factor. I love the looks of the 4006, and hoping it will be a good CC gun.

I own both a 4043 and a 1066. The 4043 is nice but the 1066 is a real beast. I just sold my Glock 29 because after I bought the 1066 I just never wanted to shoot the Glock again.
If you get a shot at a nice 1066 take my advice and snag it trust me you will never look back or want to shoot that Glock 29 again!
Now I want a 1006 for the range!
On weight I have carried both the Glock 29 and the S&W 1066 and with the right holsters both are quite comfortable to carry. Yes the S&W is a little heavier but it's also a little thinner and not as "brickesh". As a shooter however the 1066 makes the Glock 29 feel like a cheap toy in comparison!
