Federal finally has a real 10mm round. Now if they could only make other 10mm rounds and a FMJ loaded the same way.

Federal 180gr JSP
EAA Limited Pro 4.75" 1286, 1275, 1276. Average = 1279 FPS/ 654 LBS. This is about perfect with the box rating. I will get brass measurements here in a little bit.

Wow! Awesome! Got 2 boxes of this to try maybe on the weekend. Thanks for sharing looking forward to the gel test!!!

Just ordered a box.   8)

Like everyone everyone else; very interested in how it does in independent ballistic gel testing.

Found a link that claims 18" of penetration in gel:

Raggedyman; I find your video posts interesting and informative.  Thanks for sharing them.

Question regarding the .40 180gr. Gold Dot fired from carbine @ approx. 1320fps you just posted (I think these results look outstanding):
You previously posted a test of a 10mm 180gr. Gold Dot fired at similar speed as above which expanded a bit more and yielded a pretty different result.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

Derp. Posted the wrong video. Sorry. Meant to post the Federal 180 gr JSP 'cause, you know, that's what the thread is about. Wups. Yes, there was a pretty substantial difference between the two. I really have no idea what caused the difference.

I managed to post the wrong video in two different threads. Like a dumbass. I'll just copy/paste my response to Slateman from the other thread:

Those bullets came from the same box, I think, and the box says "Gold Dot" on it. I'm confident that they were both real Gold Dots and that they were both actually 180 gr. I'm also confident that the gelatin performed properly because both calibration results are well within range. Nearly ideal, really.

Sometimes bullets do weird things, which is why professional tests include at least five shots to establish an average. Some day I'll choose a few of the best performing loads from my tests and do a larger battery of tests with them to gain a statistically relevant sample size. For now, I'm inclined to believe that penetration is typically closer to the 16" mark for 180 gr Gold dots at around 1,300 fps. The earlier penetration result of 11.25" is probably an anomaly.

Cool!

Curiosity is killing me...if you don't mind, what did you pay for the Gen 3?

Paid 350.00

Came with box, 2 15rd mags and night sites

Nice deal! Well worth it.

I am staring to think the non-SF versions are better.

What makes you say that, 4949?

Wow! That's awesome!

I really want an 8"-10" 10mm upper for my SBR.

Tom, the non - SF versions have been around a long time. These guns were firing the old HOT Winchester Silvertips without an issue, as well as Norma loads, and Doubletap, when they were loaded hot. I have never hard of these issues cropping up with the Gen 3 standard version.

Methinks ( and I could be wrong) that the non-SF versions have beefier polymer frames which may flex a tiny bit less than the SF versions under recoil. I am thinking less frame flex = less issues upon firing high impulse ammo.

Just a theory, mind you, but there just may be some truth to it. Perhaps one day I will acquire a non - SF version and put my theory to the test.

Have you been hearing of trouble with the SF's?

4949shooter

Not particularly trouble with the SF's like there has been trouble with the Gen 4's. Minor issues come into play when firing full power ammo with some shooters / guns. For example, my SF exhibited a few failures to extract with the high impulse ammo (Underwood 200 grain XTP). The fix was a 22 pound RSA. The SF may need some minor tweaking to enable it to fire full power+ ammo.

One guy on Glocktalk had trouble with his SF model 20, and ended up sending it back to Glock for a replacement. This gun apparently was a lemon though. It happens..

Wow!  Must be a nice, slow powder they are using to get that much of a gain from an extra 1.5" of barrel.  Good to know.  Excited to try some in my Fusion longslide one of these days.

Good for you, Federal.  Now we just need these bullets for handloading.  ;)
