What do you think of the HBO show "True Detective" with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson?

For those who have not seen it, two detectives are on the trail of a group of sick killer/child molesters in Louisiana. The show is well made.

It's on my don't miss list.

I'm somewhat aware of the great depths of human depravity (fortunately, from a distance). Depravity caused the chase, but that is not the center of this story. Louisiana is as much a part of the story as the two detectives.

There are few places and people in the U.S. that stand out, as distinct as those in Louisiana. I've really enjoyed that aspect of the show as well.

I've read that each season's story line and location will be different, unrelated to other seasons. Pulling off this level of character development repeatedly will be tough.

I agree, it's a very well done show. Matthew McConaughey does a wonderful job going out his typical role I feel. I've seen most but not all of the episodes and i'm hooked already. The show ought to bring quite a following.

Just watched the latest episode last night. With only one episode left, they are gonna have to cover a lot of ground to bring such an extended, complex plot to a conclusion. I'm hoping for a 2 hour finale. In fact I don't want it to end (these 2 main characters, this locale in Louisianna). Yes Harry I agree, future seasons will be a tough act to follow.

What?? One episode left? Best thing I've watched in a long time. I do hope it continues with the same quality. So many of these cable network shows are good for the first season then drop off dramatically afterwards. Lack of creative writers? I don't know but movies now consist of sequels and/or comic/computer game story lines. Maybe I'm just a cranky old fart. :P

One of my favorites. HBO is leading the way. True Detectives and Game of Throne's! Best on t.v.

This is a great show, I like the premise of their story telling and I'm really looking forward to the next series of shows. However, I feel like I've got cancer now from just watching all the smoking, lol.

Unfortunately Matthew McConaughey Will Not Return For Season Two Of 'True Detective'
Shortly after Matthew McConaughey was awarded for his portrayal of Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyers Club, completing his acting transformation from rom-com actor to compelling leading man, the Oscar-winner announced he would not be returning for the second season of the hit HBO crime series True Detective . Backstage at the Academy Awards in Hollywood last night, McConaughey broke the news. "I won't be back for season two," he said. "Season one was finite."

A bit of time has passed, hopefully everyone who will watch has watched.  So I'll post my disappointment with the closing of season one of "True Detective".

There was plenty of issues brought up to have closed everything in such a shallow manner. It was if producers had a behind-the-scene drop of interest in the show. Wonder if McConaughey's improved movie prospects had something to do with this.

Beyond the seeming wide spread involvement being reduced to one sicko, Harrelson's character Hart's daughter is shown playing with dolls positioned similar to children on the video tape. Nothing explained that.

One idea presented by someone on IMDb was the possibility both Hart and Cohle were members of the group whose masks kept either from realizing the other was also a member. Some of their actions such taking justice into their own hands were instead, silencing those who could implicate them. That would have been interesting.

Would have been nice if they had produced more than eight episodes to create a finish that matched the earlier ones.
