This video has been making the rounds on gun forums & drawing some nasty & IMHO wrong assumptions.

FWIW, I have watched the video multiple times.  I agree he did get himself into that situation, but he still had a right to defend himself when things went south.

YMMV .....  8)

If it's possible, by all means give 'Bullwinkle' a wide berth!  They are extremely unpredictable, and dangerous animals!  If your in a 'no alternative' situation, it's better to be carrying a weapon/caliber up to the task.

I am still waiting to her on the model/caliber he used.

I am thinking 29 or 30.  ;)

I lived in the woods in Maine for 9 years.  I never feared the black bears but a Moose is a different matter.  I've seen cars and pickups totaled that were stopped or parked and a big bull or cow decides they hated it.  A full grown Moose has no enemies and fears absolutely nothing.  That moose in the video appears to be a juvenile as a mature animal wouldn't have backed away from the first attack.  If it had been a big bull our shooter would have had to act sooner or would have died....imo.................Mike

Honestly, I got a good laugh watching the video. But I agree, best to steer clear. LOL   :))

He made several attempts to audibly scare the moose away from the trail.  He drew his sidearm after the moose attacked and fire in fear of another attack.   I'd like to hear what bulwinkle activist would have said had he not fired, and had been hooved

As I see it he had only one choice since he was carrying a Glock and didn't have a spare animal activist to talk the moose into leaving.

I watched that before. I think it was a Glock in 40S&W, not 10mm.

I would have tried to throw a snowball at the moose first unless he was too close.

A Moose in Snowball range /IS/ too close. They can move across the snow a hell of a lot faster than you think.

The moose in the video was still kicking as shooter moved off. A final head shot would be humane. Just how many shots do you have with a charging animal  and  what do you aim at. Center mass, head, or point and keep pulling the trigger. I am searching the web now for any bear videos. The pistol did the job even if it was a .40 instead of a 10mm.

i grew up with moose. They can be anywhere from almost friendly to down right nasty. This animal was posturing very early in the video to stay away and he died because the guy did not listen. i think the deep snow had the moose on the trail and the snow mobile pressed the issue coming forward. Just one shot from that moose's hooves could have killed him. This was a no win situation.  :(
