So, I have these 180gr bullets I wanted to load up to 1225 fps @ 600 ft lbs with Unique but it looks like I might have to use my 800X instead because it doesn't look like Unique can be pushed that hard.

Can I get some first hand experience using Unique. Is about 525 ft lbs more realistic load?

thanks,

If you go by the book.. with 180gr Golddot head;

max charge comes in at 8gr for Unique @ 1138fps while Blue Dot at 11gr comes in @ 1295fps.

I've tested loads with BDot at max and had no problems in a stock G20.

If you are looking for the pistol length data Blue Dot should get you there very safely.  Using 10.6 grains of Blue Dot with the 180 should be about right!

f you are going with the IMR800X, I didn't personally test these but Sean from the forum here did.

OK thanks, so the conclusion I'm getting to my answer is 180gr @ 600 ft lbs is a no for Unique and yes with about 9 gr of 800X from a glock 20 barrel. Looks like I'll have better luck using Unique with a 135 gr bullet.

I use a lot of Blue Dot with my 180 grn cast lead bullet in 10mm

So 8 gr of Unique with 180 gr was getting me 1143 FPS @ 522 ft lbs and I had no smiles from the glock barrel but I could tell the pressure was high. So that's fine I just load a couple hundred @ 7.9 gr and call it my 500 ft lbs load. Ill have to use my 800X for my 600 ft lbs loads next.

David have you tried Blue Dot for this project?  Speer list 11.0 grains of Blue Dot under their 180gr at 1295 fps.
I have used 10.5 grains behind the 200XTP's @ 1200fps from my S&W1006
Smith &Wesson 1006 5" Barrel
Hornady 200 Grain XTP  10.5 grains Blue Dot (Max Load)
1155 fps   Low         73.50 Extreme Spread
1228 fps   High         40.77 Standard Dev.
1160 fps   1181 Average

You could also look at the Alliant 2400.

There is a site that uses reduced loads in rifles like 30-30, 30'06. http://www.gmdr.com/lever/lowveldata.htm

I would use blue dot and some other powders, but have not found available locally. Don't want to pay haz mat fee for ordering online, so I'm just working with the powders I have found so far. #9, #7 and blue dot are on my radar for sure.
