Hey Guys,

I have a Delta Elite and a Glock 20. Looking for advice for max loads, suggested recoil springs and any other considerations for these guns. Is one more resilient (or recommended) than the other with the more powerful loads?

Thank you in advance.

I'd run them through a couple hundred reg rounds and then move on to max type loads as STOCK first.  Find out what the guns like first and what you really want to shoot in the guns , then move on to changing things. Change things one item at a time so you know what's causing problems.

As to max loads, just look at Underwood, doubletap, buffalo bore, etc... Thinking that the G20 will eat almost anything you feed it as stock.

cphills, welcome to the forum!   The Glock can handle most anything if setup correctly and it is in perfect working order.

The Delta Elite comes with a lack of support at more that just the feed ramp...that being said, ammo choices can present issues, so your question has validity!  Several companies Double Tap and Underwood offer reduced loadings for the Delta Elite.

All the big name ammo, Federal, Remington, CCI, Winchester, Hornady should be fine in either application.

Handloading does offer you advantage to put together good stuff that works for your gun's needs!  :D

Best regards!

AHHH yes ,MAX loads ...the words of a youngster. :P . Been there done that. :D
FWIW- MAX loads are VERY RARELY the most accurate.
If you handload, look under my load data at top of this forum, there are plenty there.***Approach with CAUTION**

Thanks Guys.  I suspected the Delta is limited but I don't know how limited. I have seen some videos RE full power Underwood loads with the Glock (with some mentions about 22lb spring). Not that I want to shoot only at the highest velocities but wanted to get inputs from members.

475/480, I'll check your load data!!

On my original Delta I had the frame crack after only 60 rounds of the original Norma ammo. Never had the desire to own another one. My g20 has digested some very hot loads but it has a Storm Lake barrel with excellent support. Since I handload the original chamber was just to sloppy for keeping my brass in good shape. My RIA's are going strong so far. I installed 20# recoil spring, 28# mainspring, and FB Wilson FPS so I could run a steady diet of 180gr at 1270fps without beating up the gun. Really rings the 100yrd steel gong.

Hi denclast,

Where did the frame crack on your delta?

Thanks,

Hi cphills,
If my failing memory is still functioning.......... it cracked just above the mag release button. Magnafluxing showed it to be approx. 1/4" long and I then quit shooting it. Remember, the original Norma ammo was stout. It was all my dealer had available at the time and I was REALLY wanting to shoot the gun so I bought all 4 boxes he had. If I remember right, Colt at the time was known to have problems with their QC. No doubt that's changed, but the Delta still has a lack of support. My RIA's have ramped barrels and great support. My G20 has a Storm Lake barrel and I've put a number of full power loads thru it. Just accept that your Colt is not designed for MAX loads and use loads at the mid/high mid range and you'll still have a beautiful shooter. Best of luck.
