what powder is best for the 10mm?

us_shooter

I really like Longshot, but Accurate seems popular as well.

The_Shadow

LongShot for the most velocity.   :o  (Bullets can make a difference)
IMR800X very close for top velocity   ::)  (Bullets weight can make a difference)
Blue Dot for best accuracy.    ;D
Power Pistol for economy.   :D
AA#9 work well also.
AA#7 work well also.

However there are two new powders which have just hit the market and need to be explored...
Hodgdon CFE Pistol powder has good data shown on their site.   :-\
Alliant BE-86 powder no data shown but it should be a good powder for 10mm.  :-\

All of these will perform well in the proper combinations of component choices and careful handloading assembly...
The thing is actually finding the powders and components need to make your rounds. :(

One you can get!   :)

longshot, bluedot, 800x all good

I typically stock Unique, Blue Dot and AA#9.  I have recently added some longshot and power pistol to the shelf but haven't really had a chance to work with them that much.

I use more Pistol Power than anything else.  Its my personal favorite.

I like the performance 800X gives, but it meters like crap in my RCBS Chargemaster, and throwing charges would be dangerous from a powder measure.

Started using Longshot and I'm fairly pleased, but the others fill the case better.

I have some SR7625 that I use for low velocity plinking loads too.

I've been using Blue Dot for mid loads for the range with 180gr ... very accurate as mentioned

I really like VV N340 for medium loads with heavy bullets. Very consistent, low flash, pretty clean, no copper fouling. Generally, all powders with burn rates between N330 and N105 (see burn rate chart) are suitable for 10 mm, with the slower powders being potentially more powerful (if dense enough).

I really want to try Hodgdon CFE pistol..  Wonder when it will be available..  I also use Power Pistol, blue dot, and VV
