if say desert eagle brought back from the dead the 10mm magnum would you buy it?  make a 180gr. would be a frag nasty. i wonder what the fps on say 200gr.

i bet there would be rumblings about how it is only loaded to regular 10mm speeds.

The only way to get performance from 10mm Magnum, would be to roll your own, no commercial loads available that I know of... :(

Starline used to have brass for the 10mm Magnum, and it would lend itself to heavier charges of slower powders, even though you don't have a heavy crimp.

The main problem like that of true 10mm performance is the bullets seem to be geared toward 40 Short & Weak! :o

I would probably buy a  DE 10MM Mag . I spoke to them about 6 months ago about producing a 10MM Mag and they said they had no plans to produce one at that time.
You can always buy a SW610 and have it reamed to 10MM Mag.

That's what 40super is for and underwood and others sell it

Sometimes I wish magazines were a bit deeper and the chamber cut to allow the standard 10mm to seat bullets about .200" longer.  That extra space under the bullet would be nice with heavy bullets.

Wouldn't be too into another dessert eagle. If they did a stout Glock with a compensator maybe or a 1911 like that.

It would still have the same problem. Where would you get ammo or brass for that thing? I mean regular 10mm is sometimes hard to find.
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

I looked seriously into the 10mm mag about 6 months ago.  Here's what I came away with:

Not only is there no commercial source of ammo, there's no load data for hand-loading your own. Further still, to make best use of this cartridge you need 250gr+/- bullets which aren't even made in this caliber. That means casting your own bullets, except that there aren't really any good molds in this caliber in that weight range so you're also looking at buying (and probably designing) a custom mold.  All-together, it's not an impossible task but it is an exercise in bushwhacking so far off the beaten path. It's a project for an expert reloader with deep enthusiasm; not the faint of heart.

What I found was that the cartridge was designed by a small gun manufacturer as an experiment for which they also designed a pistol specifically around the cartridge.  The entire project flopped and no other commercial manufacturer has bothered with the cartridge since.  The original manufacturer did a small production run from which a few examples occasionally turn up in the used market.

The original manufacturer never released any load data for the cartridge.  There was one guy notable for publishing some vague information about a handful of loads he developed that only achieved modest performance levels.  IIRC, he wrote off the cartridge as unable to perform. I'm skeptical and think the performance is there if someone were to really put their back into it, particularly with some heavy custom cast lead bullets.  Other then that, it's been up to the folks willing to ream out their 10mm revolvers and develop their own loads. That's such a rare person it amazes me that Starline still bothers to make the brass, but they do.  I'm willing to bet someone out there has figured this cartridge out and has a few pet loads but good luck finding that person to get the load data.

After all is said and done, a .41 mag gets you to the same place cheaper, faster, and easier.  Most folks will opt for the 44mag or the 45 long colt.  These are well developed cartridges with paths blazed in all directions for ammo and load data availability.
