Opinions on Trijicon RMR?

Does anyone have opinions of Trijicon RMR on pistols? Wondering if this would be suitable on a G20 gen4 I use as backup/finish shots when hog hunting with my 6.8mm AR w/night vision, and also for occasional  daytime hunting with the G20 . I run a Eotech on that set up, and have an Acog on another AR. So I'm familiar with red dot sights on rifles and really impressed with the glass on the Trijicon Acog, but have no experience whatsoever with using a red dot on a pistol.  Any thoughts, good & bad, would be appreciated - thanks.

They are nearly bullet proof. For hunting, go with the LED version so you can see the sights better. If you use the dual illuminated version, try the 12MOA Triangle, it's the easiest to pick up of the non-led versions.

They are good to go. It's worth spending the money (~$200) to have your slide milled, and tall suppressor sights installed, instead of the cheesy dovetail mount.

The Docter III and Leupold Deltapoint sights are also good choices, and have clearer glass, but may be a little less rugged.

Thanks for the replies. I just bought an led model (RMR-06) off another forum, supposed to be like new - we shall soon see. I was thinking of getting the Glock dovetail mount but Yondering thats a serious looking setup & now you have me considering milling the slide. Haven't researched this yet but I presume the hitch is that once the slide is milled you're pretty much committed to this sight, as opposed to a more easily removable dovetail mount - correct? Everything I read talks about how rugged the RMR is, so hopefully shooting full power 10mm ammo like Underwood is not an issue, particularly on the led/battery models - again we shall see.

Thanks again & in case I go this route if anyone can point me towards a good place to have a slide milled that'd be appreciated.

Yeah, the milled setup really is a lot better for serious use. You run the pistol as if it just had iron sights, and the dot just naturally appears when the sights are lined up, no hunting for the dot like other setups. It's also a more rugged mounting style, and the RMR works great as a charging handle. It's durable enough to hook the RMR against a table, tree branch, bad guys eye socket, or whatever is handy, to rack the slide.

The RMR will be fine with 10mm loads. The only thing you might have to do is put some nail polish on the windage and elevation screws to lock them in place once it's sighted in, but even that is just extra insurance.

Go with these guys for the slide milling. They just lowered the price too; $125 for any Glock slide, and it looks like that includes the suppressor sights. http://www.onesourcetactical.com/suareztrijiconrmrinstallation.aspx#.Ut3xXrTTn4Y

On being committed to the sight; if you decide to take it off, you can just shoot it without the sight (nothing important is exposed) or have a spacer plate made to fill in the machined area. I don't know if OST (link above) makes them, but I have seen pictures of them.

That's great news - $125 isn't much more than the Trijicon dovetail insert. Thanks again - appreciate the help.

I have the rmr06 on my longslide.  Love it.  2 things though.

1 put the sight in front of the rmr. Not behind.  This does 2 things. First keeps the sight picture completely clean to see the dot no matter where in the glass it is.  And second puts a block in front of the rmr to keep soot off it.

2. Have David bowie mill it.   As far as I know he is the only only that puts the bosses in the milled slide for alighment and strength.   I don't think ost does.  Or I should say I know they never used to.

I'm considering getting an RMR installed on my Glock 20 Gen 4.

Since I will be running a Streamlight TLR, I think that the RM06 would be a better fit than the RM01 so I can adjust the brightness depending on the conditions.

Has anyone heard of anyone having any reliability issues running an RMR with hot loads?

I put an RM06 on my G29 a couple of weeks ago and have run a variety of loads including some 200 gr. WFN handloads that chrono between 1120 and 1250 fps.  I have had no issues at all and overall am pleased with the setup.  I used a "Sightmount" http://www.sight-mount.com/ that is a rear sight as well as a picatinny mount, rather than milling the slide.  It gives me a good buis in the event the red dot fails, but the more I use it the more confidence I have in it.  I just wish I had done it sooner because it is much easier to do precision shooting with my old eyes.

I have had no trouble picking up the red dot even though it is not as sharp as it could be due to my astigmatism.  I can still shoot better with it than trying to focus on iron sights.  It's especially good in low light that is not dark enough for tritium sights to show, yet too dark for standard iron sights - like for hunting, which is what I originally wanted it for.

I'm not sure how it would work with a Streamlight because when I am out in the evening with my handheld flashlight it's easier to see the red dot if I hold the light above my head.  The brightest setting is pretty bright, though, so possibly if I could come to my usual 2 hand hold it would pick up more readily than trying to hold a light in one hand and the gun in the other.

I may eventually decide to mill the slide, but so far it is really pretty handy as is, and rugged.  I use it for a charging handle and it works great.

Well my rmr gave out.   About 1500 rounds on it.  Electronics came loose inside.  Guess it's a known issue with the led ones. I guess they have it worked out now.   Will see when mine gets back from trijicon.

I have a dovetail mounted Burris FF3 and, despite not having chosen to kill the slide yet, it's been flawless with several hundred full power rounds and turns my G20 into a deer sniper pistol.

I can only imagine having an even nicer red dot (RMR) milled into my slide. It would be SUPER slick.

Go for it!
