Wood dowels, white tape. I did that but does it have steel plate? It saved mine again the other day from a .44 round.

Looks like someone else is using the old Ironing board for the base!  I have a piece od 5/32" plate on a slope from the front of mine for pistol loads...Bamboo skewers for the rods

I still use mine on a tripod, but use wood dowels inside colored drinking straws (blue close, red far).  The colored straws have tape (bandage type) flags with high/low measurements (often through a scope, that's all you get to see).  On a cloudy day I use only the dowels/straws (no hood necessary, and more consistent without).  On the list of things to do is fab a steel frame (with integrated hood) with ramped plate, similar to Shadow's pic.  I chose the frame, because I want it independent of the Chrony, just in case (again).  The ironing board is a nice touch, but not practical where I use it.

I finally bought one about three weeks ago, but because of family events I have not yet gotten it tested with anything but air guns in the back yard.  And these pictures aren't helping!

Thanks  for the comments. Intercooler, I do have a steel plate that is 5 inches wide and a foot long and is one-half thick. It cost me more to have it cut at a local machine shop than the cost of the plate! lol  All together not quite ten bucks. You and the Shadow gave me the ideas about how to protect it.
DM 1906, thanks for the inform re no hood on a cloudy day. If I take it w/ me on a cloudy day, I'll remember that

Ahh. Yea I would have killed mine several times now. I had a 1600 FPS 180gr .44 hit it right in the center but the plate saved it. I think it was me not being familiar with the snap of the 180's and driving down on the shot. The white tape is real effective too! As a matter of fact I think I am going to list some of my extra Chrony pieces I will never use.

I just want to get mine out to the range!  Here is hoping for Saturday morning.

I just made some sacrificable diffusers for my CHRONY setup...
Take a gallon water jug or milk jug, cut an 2 1/2" strip around the circumference of the lower flat square section.
Then cut 90 degrees accross the middle of one of the wide flat sections, then fold in half and cut at 90 degrees again yielding two pieces of equal length about 11" long each.  Now use an "ice pick" (or simular) to push a hole in the middle of each end about 1/4" in from the edge for the bamboo skewers to slide into the holes.  There you have it very simple and a freebie!  ;D

As I posted earlier that I use an "ironing board" to utilize my CHRONY, this was also a curbside (thrown out as trash) FREEBIE!  They work great because they are hight adjustible and fold flat for storage.  :o   Well, I am working on a flip up 16"h x 15"w target holder channeled wood frame for the rear of the "ironing board" to be hinged to the ironing board's flat surface.  The channels along the inside of the frame will acept cardboard inserts on which targets can be taped to or stapled.  I thinking about using stiff wire piviting off the outer edge of the frame for vertical supports at an angle down to the flat  ironing board.  I'll put a picture up when I can.

Here is the CHRONY as setup on the ironing board with the new flip up target frame.

CHRONY and Target folded up...

This one shows the milk jug diffusers on the skewers...remember I also have the steel plate that forms a long slope to protect the chrony!

And I still haven't gotten out to test mine.  Living 50 minutes from my favorite shooting area sucks.

Where can you buy parts reasonable? I think I want to refurb mine. The display needs a new sticky and I wanted to replace the rear sky screen.

Midway has parts for most of them, and most manufacturers offer repair parts.  If they don't list on their sites, call them.  Chrony does (don't ask how I know this).

I remember thinking this.  Then one day I was getting erratic readings and got frustrated and started just squezing off the last couple rounds.  Next I spent 15 minutes downrange looking for one of the sky screen legs.

Ooops.
