Today I tore down the front wheel bearing of my GMC 2500HD 4x4, these bearings have started making some low rumbling noise while turning.  Some people had them go out in as little as 35K miles, my left front went 60K mile and the right was done today at 93K miles.  Straining your goonies is an understatement, taking things off and putting them back on and the strain on your back is rough.  Shade Tree Style in the driveway, not in a shop with a lift... ::) :-[

Torque Specs:
Lug Nuts 8 on each wheel  110 lb.ft
Quotehowever when the "Stealer" I mean dealer put them on after the injectors were done the torqued the damn things to 250 lb.ft
(I was pissed, if I would have had a flat on the highway I would not have been able to remove them)  It took a serious cheater pipe to get them off.  >:( >:D
Axle Nut - 177 lb.ft
Spindle Bolts-133 lb.ft
Main Caliper Bolts-221 lb.ft

While it was torn down, I changed the front brake pads out, they were about 1/2 worn down.  I also rotated the tires and should have done the rear brakes but they will get done in the spring, still have some meat left.

Anyway glad that is done, I am worn out!  ???

It always kills me to allow a $20 hr mech work on my vehicles and get chrged $150 per... I know when I do it, its right.

Don't think the kids at the dealers know what a torque wrench is... it's use the air gun and tighten till stripped and then back off 1/2 turn.

I hear that, I just had some work done on the wife's car and only one of the two issues was fixed, the antifreeze leak still leaking even though they used the improved upgraded parts.  I did it last time and it stayed repaired for 4 years.

Chevy Impala 3.8V6 has elbow and fittings with o-rings and passage through the alternator bracket..."Stupid Design"!  >:(
