It's been just over a year of owning the Burris fastfire III mounted to the STI Perfect Ten slide.  It's like the fastfire was preprogrammed to fail just after the warrenty period expired... NO red dot anymore, tried new battery, contact clean etc.. it's dead.

I bought it on line direct from the US so emailed Burris customer service, nothing, not even a sorry it's outside the warrenty period.  I was always sceptical that the optics would handle being beaten up on the 10mm slide ride, and proved myself correct.  :'( What a waste of money and time.

Back to irons or I might consider a frame mounted optic, but never another Burris product. >:(

I put a set of Crimson Trace laser grips on my Dan Wesson Razorback 10mm years ago. After the warranty expired I fired an apparent double charged reload in the gun, and blew out the magazine and damaged the grips. Sent it in to Crimson Trace, they not only fixed them for free, and shipped them back to me for free, they even threw in 2 extra free batteries.

Now that's what I call service!

I'm also thinking the grip mount takes a much less severe beating than a slide mounted laser.
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

Six 10’s

I really hate hearing about your Fastfire III. I just installed one on my Perfect 10 last month. I hope that, I have better luck than you did. I really hate hearing Burris would not do anything to help you. I also installed on on a Smith & Wesson 44 mag. at the same time, I could be in for double trouble.

I have my fingers crossed for you Six 10's

My recommendation at the first sign of a symptom that looks like battery failure, check the battery is ok and if so send to Burris.  It's easier for you as you're US based, where I am in Australia.
Also be very very careful with the battery cover lid, its a shit design and the threads are just asking to be crossed and stripped.

When it worked it rocked...
