Tulsa Gun Show & 10mm

I had plans to go to the big Tulsa Gun Show this weekend to look for and buy every piece of small primer 10mm brass I could find. I always look for the real 10mm brass that does take us to .41 Mag Land. If you don't have any. You really have no idea what the real unpublished loads will do.

At lunch I went to a local reloading shop. The owner asked if I was going to the show this weekend. Told him my mission. He said skip it if you want. Asked for my phone numbers and said he would be in touch. I asked him and drilled him about his understanding of real 10mm brass. He understood fully what I was after. This would be very early Norma, WIN and the best is RWS brass that they have never admitted to producing. He asked my price range. I told him straight up. You produce the brass we will make a deal. But be clear,,, I will only pay top dollar for new brass in the box. They didn't bag it bad then. Once fired I would only pay him market x .50 and it best be clean.

So I have a feeling he has a personnel stash of gold and he has been sort of sizing me up as a reloader and my taste. I have spent a few hundred in supply's at his shop. I honesty like purchasing from the local retail market over the net. Yeah I pay a tad more. But supporting the local economy means more to me than saving $5.00 or $30.00 here and there.

A local gun shop rode the wave concerning reloading supply's in every run up that has happened. Folks got sick of Dong's crap! Many have walked away. In a show of support today a cheer went out to Jerry's and a wish of running Dong's out of town.

I hope Jerry comes through with my request of small primer 10mm brass. If your a true 10mm shooter. You know what that brass means. Delta over priced Elites need not apply.

I've been shooting 10mm since 1992 and never knew of SP brass.

Yes, the "small pistol" primered 10mm brass was made to utilize the "NT" non-toxic-lead free primers for indoor ranges to reduce the contamination.  The 45ACP is another that also had small primers for the same reason...many more of these are being made as compared to the 10mm.  Some see it as a PITA for handloading if they become mixed up.

I see two advantages to having the small primer brass; 1) stronger web & 2) with shortages, being able utilize the brass for the primers on hand!

I've only used small mag pistol primers and reg. Small pistol primers. I didn't go to the show. One of my buddy's from Fort Smith that was suppose to come up fell sick in the hospital. So I went to hang out with him.

Unlike the large rifle which is slightly taller than the large pistol primers, the small rifle primers and small pistol primers are the same height!  The cup of the small rifle primers is a thicker/tougher, if used in striker fired pistols you could see a "failure to fire".  There are some small rifle primers that are made to military grade specs the are even tougher yet to prevent "slam fire" incidents.

While the small rifle and small pistol primers are the same size physically, there are some differences in pressures and bristance that are produced.



I use small rifle primers in 25ACP casings with a special breech plug to ignite my "in-line" muzzleloader.  It was designed to yield a softer ignition than the 209 system and is said to yield less fouling as well.  Has worked great too!

I recently bought 500 pieces of used brass and 57 of those had small primers. I probably won't mess with them. I have .25 each in them if anyone is interested.
