I see his thinking as one of city life, where people in the hustle and bustle of this fast pace world don't take time to train and learn about things other than their cell phones,(make a call, text or video). We see how the texting is working out! ::)

But the youth of today get their knowledge from video games, where they are constantly shooting in the video, they even shoot themselves!  :o

It use to be that people could drive out to a secluded location and bust of a few rounds to get to know their weapon of choice to see how it worked.  Those days are about gone!  So now someone would have to find a range, pay money to shoot, in a setting that maybe no conducive to learning, with the distraction of other shooters.  They could even be frustrated by being told what they can and can't do, or that they have to buy ammunition from the range to shoot there. :-\

The passing down of gun knowledge by family and friends still take place but it is very limited to those who understand guns as a tool for a specific operation.  Safety aspects are only as good as the person teaching or skill sets they are willing to learn.  They used to have firearms training in schools, regulations have destroyed that in the name of safety. ???

While my dad was in the military, he was by no means a gun guy, even though he had guns for hunting or protecting his property and livestock.  Most of what I learned was from doing and reading and practiced proficiency applied.

The people getting a firearms should seek out good education, to better understand not only the use and maintenance of the weapon but the legal aspects of having one and its use.

About?  My friend, they are gone.  Even up here, due to the massive migration in the last 10 years (app. 4,500 people a year in this county alone) of east and west coast implants buying up forest land, DNRC gating up all the logging roads, its a 30-40 minute drive minimum to get far enough up in the mountains to shoot.
This situation is exactly like 1994 and 2009.  Shooters responded emotionally to some threat that did not exist.  Some persons who wanted to appear "in the know" or "connected" used the internet forums to repeat these "sky is falling" rumors over and over until people believed i

Disgusting garbage. I just cancelled my subscription. Pisses me off. I also sent the NRA an email so they can let everyone know. Everyone needs to spread this around all of the gun forums. Put these clowns out of business.

I don't know
You gotta admit, he does make several good points
And everyone does have the right to his or her opinion
Since I don't subscribe to his (or any other) Magazine, his opinion in this one article won't stop me from buying an issue in the future
I only buy an issue if I find a good article
So tell me again how Trump was worse then the 8 years before .... AND what came after HIM !

He is way off base. He repeatedly brings up "well regulated" as if the meaning means government regulation, which in fact, well regulated meant, according to the Oxford English Dictionary in use at the time the constitution was written "being in proper working order." Something that was well-regulated was calibrated correctly, functioning as expected.

Dick Metcalf is wrong. He sounds like every other liberal from Illinois.

Guns and Ammo Facebook page has lost 60,000 "likes" in 3 days. They're down to 407,000.

I'm real tired of the, "You have the Right to free speech, but that doesn't give you the Right to call out Fire in a crowded Movie Theater analogy".

Gun control laws and the restrictions Metcalf is pushing for are the equivalent of muzzling every person entering a movie theater because they MIGHT yell "Fire", OR  passing laws banning tongues to keep you from yelling fire...or licensing them and their storage.

Mr. AR50

I've been reading DM's articles for a long time( I even have some that were co-written with Steve Herrett from the 70's) and it sickens me to see a supposed 'gun guy' like Metcalf with this type of attitude. I've cancelled my subscription to G&A, and sent them an email stating why.

Aren't they, G&A, based in Illinois? After having moved there from Calif.

If so, I never could understand why a Co. would leave 1 gun hating state for another. (I'm talking .gov here).

Guns & Ammo was once part of the Robt. E. Peterson Publishing Group, which was based in Los Angeles, CA.  Peterson's flagship magazine was originally:  Hot Rod .  Then he moved on to other fan favorites, including:  Car Craft , Rod & Custom , Motor Trend , CARtoons , and  Motorcyclist to mention the most prominent.  Peterson sold his empire prior to his death for $450 million dollars.  The magazine Guns & Ammo is currently owned by Source Interlink which is owned by Ronald Burkle.  Burkle has interests in Occidental Petroleum and Yahoo .  He raised more, than $1,000,000 dollars for Hillary Clinton .  He frequently champions Democrats, and their causes.  I'm letting my subscription to this magazine end in 2014, when it expires.  I don't support those, who support communists overtly, or serreptitiously.
