I'm looking for a good plinking round for my S&W 1006.  Something with a MV around 1175-1200 fps with 180gr bullet.  I've got Underwood ammo and it is good stuff and actually cheap enough to qualify as plinking ammo, but I want something a little bit tamer, but not anemic.  I'm thinking Blazer 200gr would be a decent round, but I can't seem to find any on line right now.

Armscor, PPU, and Remington UMC, seem a bit under powered.

The PBR 165gr FMJ at 1195 seems to be close to what I'm looking for.  Anyone have experience with that round?  Any other suggestions besides reloading?

With the current supply and demands things are what they are, up in price and even the ammo loaders are having to deal with the issues of finding their supplies.  You basically find what's in stock and at the price point you can comfortably afford. Not everyone has time to handload, but this is where rolling your own really can help if you. Yes it cost a little money to get started, but the quality is what you make it!  And by maintaining your own supplies and cheaper still, casting your own bullets you can shoot for less.  Plated bullets at the right price/quantity you can also shoot for cheaper.
There is data in the pull-down on the Parabellum Research (PBR) 165/180/200 grain offerings, here is the 165 info;

Explore Intercoolers test of the commercially avalible ammo, he has tested just about all of the 10mm stuff that has been sold over the years.
Good luck!  ;)

Have you seen "the sheet"?

You can sort through different power levels there by clicking the tabs at the bottom.

Here you can find what the best deal per round is currently:

Armscor gave me about 1150 FPS again today. At $22/box it's hard to beat for good target ammo.

That BVAC 180gr load (8.2gr's of Power Pistol) is about perfect IMO at 1175-1200 FPS. Only problem is none to be found now.

Thanks for all the info and the links.  I do use Gunbot and finding ammo is not a problem.  It's just trying to decide which one without buying one of each.  I guess I will have to revisit my opinion of Armscor.  The BVAC looks just about right, so I will be keeping an eye out for it.

Georgia Arms is good stuff.  I ordered 100 rounds of their 155 gr Speer Bonded +P to try back in May when they had some in stock for a short while.  It was accurate and had a nice firm kick to it.  All there 10mm has been OOS since then.  I really want to buy more from them, but their shipping makes it too expensive.  The farther West you go, the more they charge.  Seems the minimum is $20 for the Central Zone, where I am located.

I have been trying to talk Anthony at PBR into doing a 500-1000 round bulk pack like BVAC previously offered.

I found the same.  I bought 1K rounds of their canned heat right after I got my first Witness many years ago.  At that time, I could not buy brass and components and load it myself any cheaper.  Of course, once I had used my unloading machine on their 1K rounds, I had brass.

But, being in the west, their shipping jumped right after my first order, suddenly making BVAC very attrictive.  Especially since I they are at my local gun shows, and so I could avoid shipping altogether.  Then BVAC quit selling direct.

It would be great to see someone step up and provide a decent quality, average power 10mm load at an economy price.

In todays market, about the bottom end for 40S&W is $300 for ammo with new brass.  You can get reman cheaper, but realistically there isn't a source of once fired 10mm brass to support a reman market.

But, 10mm is usually a good bit more than this, and not for any apparent reason.

Georgia Arms is a good example of this.  40 S&W 180 grain "canned heat" is $290/1000. In new starline brass.  10mm is $420/1000.  But, starline brass is only $7/1000 more for 10mm versus 40S&W.  Small and large pistol primers are the same price in bulk.  Granted, powder will be about 20% more for 10mm, but we are talking $4-$5/1000 in increased powder costs.

So, the component cost to make 40 S&W should be $147 (brass) + $27 (primer) + $14 (powder) + $130 (bullet). That totals $318 and works out to $424 with a 25% margin.  Makes me wonder how they are doing it for $290.  Must be some pretty good bulk discounts.

But, except for brass, all the other components should enjoy the same discounts.  So, I would think they should be able to produce 10mm canned heat for about $325/1000.  That would be the target price.
