I was able to shoot some of the 200gr GDHP into wetpack this weekend.
The HP on the 200gr Gold Dot is large,so I thought I would start the velocity a little lower than 1200 fps. The starting load for the 200gr GD is 1150 fps out of my G20SF and I am glad I did. The GD did not hold up as well as I was hoping. No doubt this bullet was designed for 40SW velocities.

Weight- Lft  ---> Rt
165.4gr , Diameter = 556x .552" . Penetration =9.0"
160.9gr , Dia = .540 x .571" - Penetration =9.25"
164.3 + pieces = 177.3gr , Dia = .526 x .518" - Penetration =9.5"

Thanks maybe I Had my hopes set to high. I still like to see some in Ballistic gel with 4 layers of denim? I going to order some more ballistic gel this time clear ballistic but won't get any testing done until fall. I start slow 950-1000 fps med 1100 & full power? Thanks for your wet pack tests were they soaked phone books or gallon jugs with wet newspaper?

Intercooler

Kevin is doing mine with the 200 XTP load.

Soaked phone books . I will locate some denim and see if that changes the performance.
So far Nosler 200 gr HP's have performed best with the least amount of weight loss.

Sean, thanks for the report.  I am way behind on grass cutting with the recent rains and now trying to make repairs to my tractor.  I'll try and test some soon. ???

Yea maybe those bullets were made for 40 short and weak velocities, but nothing says we can drive them to the upper limits.
Just like 135's if they fast enough, they will bust the hell out of what ever they hit! ;D

Wow got to say I am a bit disappointed :(.   Was hopeful of MUCH better performance.
Now I dont feel so bad that I dont have any of these 200gr ers.

Lets try orginall black talon speeds then bust the hell out of them I with you Shadow! Let see what Intercooler comea up with loads by Kevin?

Thanks for the test. I'll bet denim will change things quite a bit. I know wet pack isn't really accurate on penetration but do you care to speculate on what the penetration might have been in gelatin or tissue?

I know some of you guys might be a little disappointed but I'm actually encouraged by this result. The XTP has already proven itself to work really well at the upper end of 10mm velocity but can't seem to expand at subsonic speeds. I'd be really interested to see if we can get this bullet to open up at about 1,050 fps because I love the idea of a heavy, suppressed JHP.

My Witness broke the trigger bar so I have to wait until it gets back from EAA to do more 10mm tests. In the mean time I'll be testing some of the .357 and .44 that Intercooler sent. Soon as I get it back, though, I really want to see what they'll do.

I am going back out this weekend. I will load some of the 200gr GDHP's to 1050fps and I have some already loaded at 1180 fps and I did locate plenty of denim to shoot thru. :D .
I also loaded some of the Speer 165gr SportMasters at 1420 fps and Nosler 150 gr HP at 1420 fps.
I will post results Tuesday.

Good point , we don't have to worry about overpenetration and IMHO that is something to be concerned about at 10MM velocities.

I honestly think that 10mm represents a lower risk of over penetration than the service calibers. We've seen that the extra velocity tends to cause less penetration than the same bullet would get at .40 S&W velocity. There are always exceptions (obvious exception being heavy solids), of course, but as a general rule, I think 10mm tends to penetrate less.
