I ordered a tactical mag release for it and still researching front sights. I can't believe someone doesn't make a gold bead/ball for it! The paint option hasn't been ruled out but I'm also trying to locate a sleeve which can be slid over the front post in a visible color.

The last couple of days I have been watching videos on AK's and the Polytech is deemed the Holy Grail (price reflects this), but for most purposes I just don't see it.

Second time out with it today. I'm learning this AK thing!

I put some orange nail polish on the front sight which seemed to help a little bit.

The last time out I found it a challenge bench shooting with the 30 round magazines so I ordered a couple of 10 rounders. Excellent for the task! It's also a must to have the magazine loader as the second part of the equation.

This time the oil splattering was minimal, but next cleaning I am using one drop on a Q-Tip for lube! I ordered the Phoenix Kicklite adjustable stock to replace the rather small stock Tapco. I'm right at about 400 rounds through it so far and not a single issue.

Nice, I haven't ventured into the AK's or the AR's, but may do so someday!  I really want to get the 308 Winchester/7.62NATO in an AR setup.

I'm happy with what the AK platform does and that is run! Again today an AR had some magazine issues with jamming prompting the RSO to have a look. The AK is made to eat dirt and keep plugging away! I'm really starting to think they like it better without any oil  :o

There are night sights for the AK variants.  Midway has some and also a 6 piece front post set with different sized balls and rods ( :o), that you could paint white or green or red or whatever.

Here is a night front sight post for the AK:  http://www.onesourcetactical.com/amerigloak-47frontnightsightm6x075threadfront.aspx#.UrIH9tiA270

btw, I got myself a couple gifts for X-Mass that should be at my FFL at the end of the week.  I will post pics once they follow me home.

My first mod... $5.00 and I like it!

I have read some mixed reviews on that mag release since the lock downs are metal threaded thru the polymer/plastic.  Wish someone made an aluminum version of that exact one.  Let us know how it lasts long term.

Intercooler

Will do. I'm a little skeptical on the screws holding myself! Tomorrow the stock will be here to swap out.

Before

The Mod... and I did have to file the plastic plus loosen the bolts for alignment. Normal plastic stuff!

I like the extra length I get with the adjustment and the cheek weld didn't seem to change. Other than a front sight I am done!

Tried out the stock today and love it! I put 160 rounds through it and the feel is much improved. The release is still holding just fine and all I need now is a front sight adjusting tool.

560 rounds without a single issue. No oil splattering after the last cleaning which tells me I'm perfect for the amount of oil.

You oiled it?  Ak noobs... .... :))

Glad to hear it's running well.  8)

Intercooler

Not really. I shot it as-is the first time out and it was soaked from the MFG prompting me to do a glass cleaning every three shots. After the first cleaning it was better but still some splatter. After that session I cleaned it again and put maybe two drops of oil smeared on the rail/bolt and that's it. Today was no splatter! Pretty sure all the oil other then what I applied is gone!

So I finally got around to taking pics of the new AKs.  VEPR MD2 with the wood furniture and an Arsenal SAM7R-61.  Since the VEPR has the thicker RPK stamped receiver, it seems to weigh a bit more than the milled Arsenal.  The Arsenal has the Warsaw Pact stock so it is shorter too.  First mod will likely to get a NATO length stock for the SAM7.  Have not gotten to take them to the range yet, but will soon.  The ranges around here all want non-magnetic rounds and the outdoor 100 yd range does not allow fmj.  Did find a range about an hour away that allows anything, even milsurp stuff, so once a nice weekend comes it will be on.  and the drum mags I ordered should be here by then  :o ;D

realized the camera was set on a high resolution, so I had to resize them smaller.  hope they are still viewable decently.  You get the idea.  hehe
