1 (12.5%)
180 grain
5 (62.5%)
200 grain

What's your favorite all around choice and what do you use each weight for if you use more than one weight XTP.

Huntchick

I'm in the Heavy for Caliber camp myself. Heavy and slow vs light and fast. 200 grain XTP.

blaster

my 10mm pistols are for hunting so I like the 200 gr. bullets. I do shoot a lot of 180 gr. cast bullets for practice but that's because I can't find an affordable 200 gr. bullet mold.

sqlbullet

Generally 180 grain.  If I need a harder punch I switch to cast bullets for the heavier weights.

Huntchick

Awesome gentlemen.
I now in 10mm carry the Montana 200 gr WFN-GC or 200 gr XTP. I?m working on a load using a 180 gr Bayou TC bullet load for general nothing bigger than a black bear. Before Getting into the 10mm I was carrying around a Casul but mostly used 45 long colt in it. Love the gun but just too much to carry anymore. The 10mm has replaced my 357 now. Thanks again for your input.

Kenk

The XTP 180 has done well for whitetail

Huntchick

Thanks KenK.
So far I've not heard anyone speak on the 155 grain. Honestly I've never really considered it myself. I'm guessing its mostly used as a CCW bullet for 2 legged threats ?

blaster

just guessing here but I would think that a 155 gr. hollow point would open up too quickly and lack the penetration for anything larger than humans or small whitetails.

Huntchick

I agree Blaster, I just have not been really able to think of a good reason to use a 155 grain in a 10mm. Not even for Humans especially if dressed heavily.  Maybe Dog or Coyote. I Just Think a 180 or 200 will do everything better, but i could be wrong.

Alabusa

155gr XTPs are brutal on hogs and deer. I have a nuclear load that is use and is laser accurate to 50 yards which is my personal limit.

That?s great information Alabusa. A high speed 155 grain bullet I?m sure causes some serious damage.

Markwell

I too go with 200 grr XTPs or 200gr WFN-GC hard cast running a bit over 1200 fps. Used to carry a 5" model 29 with 300gr LBTs in big bear country but the recoil just got to be too much for good double action shooting so we switched to a 10mm 1911 several years ago and haven't looked back.
Firearm resale value should be your kids' problem.

Huntchick

I'm really quite surprised that so many are using 155 gr XTP and so many voted 180 vs 200. But being new to 10mm I've got plenty to learn and appreciate everyone  here willing to share and help.

blaster

you came to the right place for all kinds of 10mm info! I have learned a LOT here!

Kenk

Absolutely, with tons more to learn
