Exactly what I was thinking.
Youth and exuberance are no match for age and treachery.

I wish they would have use the 6.8spc case instead of the rebated rim.

Agreed  It would have made more sense!

interesting! that looks like it will be a real thumper.  is the rebated rim so it can use a 5.56 bolt?

No, the rebated rim gets them down to a 6.8 SPC bolt.  It is the case body diameter that is larger than a 6.8 SPC, though only by .018" (.440 v .422)

Here is a wicked thought I had last night, though the rebated rim may again cause issues.  S&W recently released the X-frame in 350 Legend.  That would definitely have my interest in 400 legend.  10mm Maximum!

Put this in the Ruger Mini30 platform and you'd have a nice "hot rock" carbine cartridge "brush gun" platform/caliber combination.

Agreed?

It will be interesting if they can make it feed from a double stack AR-15 magazine.  In my experience with the 10mm Magnum in the AR, it was less than good.

Hello Tony!

One thing I am looking forward to is newer selection of bullets and their overall performance at various velocities.
Many things to look forward to like cannelure bullets for positive crimping to improve ignition qualities using various powder burn rates.
All in all it should be an interesting adventure.

Dear Shadow,

I agree with you completely and would like to see this round in a 16" barreled platform. Were this nestled in something akin to an M1 Carbine, it would make a perfect Hog/Black Bear/Whitetail rifle out to 200 yards.

In a prison setting, a 155-grain JHP smoking out the barrel at ungodly velocities would handle the biggest, meanest, ugliest inmate with consummate aplomb. Such a rifle/load combination would have no problems sending such a piece of human ordure to the "promised land" in less than a heartbeat.

I read this line ....  "The straight-wall design of the 400 Legend cartridge features a rebated rim and is designed to operate effectively in America's rifle, the AR-15." Although it didn't address the issues involved in doing this, I'm guessing this this involves using a different upper receiver chambered for the 10mm Long with a bolt that is designed to chamber and extract that cartridge?

I was never interested in changing the upper receiver out to use 300 blkout. But, the 10mm Long sounds like a much more effective cartridge ballistically, than the 300 blkout and I might be interested in this if it is. Just comes down to the availability of the upper receiver, bolt, magazines, and factory manufactured cartridges (I have zero interest in reloading or using non-factory made ammunition).

Duramag (C products) is making a 400 legend double stack magazine but so far, only 5 and 10 round straight bodied mags.

I have bought a couple of them, and they work great, but I'm using them in a 9x39 integrally suppressed upper I made 5 or 6 years ago and not chambered in 400 legend.  Since I made the 10mm upper a couple of years ago, I didn't see the need to make the 400 legend at the distances that I use it with.

Cproducts website says more capacity choices coming soon but they haven't updated that since last year.  I would be very happy with some 20 round straight bodied mags.  Very happy indeed.

But for now, the 10 rounders are working well for me.

As for 400 legend barrels, there's multiple choices out there now for that if anyone is still interested.
