Best alloy temp for casting if you could only have one

I understand there are many variables that can come into play when considering alloy temps. If there were only one temp you could keep your pot at, what would that be? Once my Thermometer arrives, I?ll be able to reach and maintain the desired temperature much more easily

As you stated, there are many variables that come into play but a good starting point would be about 750 degrees.

Thanks, that was the general area I was thinking as well

I consider 680 a min and 750 a max unless I am dealing with some specialty alloy.

Also, without a PID controller, expect temperature variation with a Lee pot.  On my pot, temps go up as the pot gets empty.  I have adopted the practice of casting until my thermometer is above 730, then putting sprues back in and/or adding a new ingot of lead to pull the temp back down.  While this would be less than ideal if I was shooting in high precision competition, for plinking bullets it is fine.

I change dependent upon alloy and molds.

My main use pot has a PID and that runs @ 700-725. My Lino pot runs closer to 675. My pure lead pot is 750?
