I contacted Taurus in regards to using +P ammunition in their firearms, below is their response.

Hi Mary,
You had said my Taurus GX4 was not +P compliant, however page 18 of the owners manual states that it is. Could you please let me know which it is for safety reasons

Hello Kenneth,
Yes, the owner's manual does say this, although we never recommend +P because of the damage it does to the firearm and the potential harm it may cause the customer.

Thanks for your response Mary. Taurus may want to rethink their stance on the use of +P ammunition in their weapons, as this could easily discourage people from purchasing weapons from Taurus for self defense purposes
Thanks

I understand that heavy use of +P ammunition in most weapons can cause premature wear, however there?s  a reason why many law enforcement agencies implement the use of +P ammo in their service weapons

Coming from Taurus, that doesn't really surprise me too much.

I have owned several taurus and rossi guns over the years.  More good than bad, but the bad, were really bad.

Unless I get one of their lever actions sometime down the road, I don't think I'll buy anything else from them.

Last time, it was a compact 9mm that had continual light strikes.  I changed the striker spring.  Striker.  Mainspring.  There was just no fixing it.

I called to check on estimated wait times if I sent it to them to repair it and I'm not kidding, they told me it was excess of a year.  Granted that was during one of those times when they had recalls on a lot of stuff, but like I said, that kind of spoiled my opinion of them and I doubt I would buy anything else from them.  Too many other good firearm companies making good stuff than to risk getting something bad from them that would take forever to get remedied.

Hey John, I?ve had a few from them that weren?t stellar either. I will say their GX4 micro 9 is pretty impressive at its price point. The two that I?ve shot in the GX4 size range are the P365, and the Hellcat. For me I like the ergonomics and the trigger on the GX4 much better than either of the others, but that?s just me, not to mention how clean the lines are, the full length slide rails, and not a sound when you give it a shake. Unless a problem rears its head, it?s for sure a heck of a pocket pistol. As for the GX4?s trigger, it has a very distinct wall, and a very short reset, what?s there not to like for around $250.00 on GB 😀

I understand that they've made some good stuff.

My first experience with them was probably 20 years ago when I bought a 410/22 youth combo to teach my oldest two sons how to shoot and they used the 410 squirrel and turkey hunting the first few years until they could grown into bigger things.

Other than being pretty cheaply made, as one would expect from $125 walmart special, it served it's purpose.  I wouldn't take $500 for it just because of sentimental reasons.  Besides, it has done well.

The other positive that I've had is a model 66, which is a very close clone of the S&W combat master model 66, other than being in stainless.  It's a 357 seven shot and I carried it for a long time while out in the woods because of bears and wolves and big cats and stuff in a shoulder holster, but my wife confiscated it for herself since she liked it.  It's never given me a moment of grief either, but with as big as some of the bears are in there, I was preferring something bigger anyway and have been carrying a Mossberg 12 the last few years.

So, I know they've made some OK stuff.  That's why I'd give them a chance with a 357 lever action, but my experiences haven't all been positive either.

It's not the fact that they mess up sometimes.  That happens to all of them.  It's the poor way they handle it when they do that gives me pause.

Unlike my incredibly positive experiences  with Sig and Glock. My P220 Elite Hunter 10mm had just the tiniest bit of the camo finish peeling off, I?m talking a really small area, sent it into Sig on their dime, they stripped and beed blasted it, and it was back to me in less than two weeks, no questions asked, and was done at no charge, not to mention, I like the looks of the P220 much more now. With my 9 year old G30s, Glock pretty much rebuilt it due to HP?s hanging up on the feed ramp, all in something like 15 or 16 days, all I had to cover was shipping it to their factory. Service like that really helps me to better understand how poorly other outfits treat their customers.

Plus 1 on Sig's service. I handed my C3 to a local smith, and he said due to what i wanted done, and the aluminum frame, he would send it to sig.  Now this is an older C3, mind you, and they repaired the weapon and added new grips for nothing. I paid the smith the cost of shipping, that's all
